The River Ranch is a cozy restaurant and lodge with 19 rooms and a restaurant and bar over the river perfect for all seasons with a cozy bar for apres ski in the winter and close proximity to world class skiing. Lively patio bar and grill in the summertime with rafting and biking at it's door. **Please check ADA room availability as rooms are limited.
The rooms and hotel are in a state of decay, peeling paint etc; looks dumpy The bar and bartenders were cool and made nice drinks but honestly for a 3 minimum night stay at 251 per night was a rip off. It’s sad watching a once amazing hotel and restaurant in this state

Photos appear to belie the current condition of the lodge. While the restaurant area has acceptable amenities, an interesting menu and great service, the lodging part of the facility is run down; in need of not only upgrading but simple basic maintenance. Paint peeling everywhere, hallways dingy and run down, room interiors run down and so drab as to give the appearance of dirty. Cracked concrete everywhere. If it were not for the dining area this would be getting a 1 star rating.

Such a sweet spot to take a break from bike ride, hike, rafting or simply driving around the lake! My pups and I sat in the shade watching the river rapids while I enjoyed some delicious shrimp ceviche. The staff was so sweet and immediately brought my puppers a water bowl!

We came here after coming down the river and we got nachos, chicken fingers, salads and drinks to share amongst all of us. The view is great. Service is at the bar but the teenagers all seem to wish they were somewhere else - friendly service can go a long way. That said: nachos were great very big and tasty, the chicken on the salad was incredibly DRY, chicken fingers and fries good. Unlimited drinks which kids love. Would come here again but avoid anything with chicken.

To appearances, an old lodge. Our room in a corner of this sprawling heap, up a series of outside stairs, was pleasantly over-sized. The room included two exterior porches overlooking the Truckee River at a very scenic little bend of the river. Built around some seriously tall old trees. On close examination, the exterior of the property shows signs of some need for r&r - I'm trusting that the ownership is able to keep the place going for another hundred years, it being the polar opposite of the cookie cutter resort properties populating the region. Pet friendly! Visited the very nifty octagonal-shaped restaurant/bar for breakfasts, this overlooking the river. East-facing, it's a fine place to bask in some sun on cold mornings. Did not have the opportunity to dine in the evenings.…

Walked in 8:30 Saturday night (their website and the sign on their door says open for dinner 5-9) and asked for a table for 2, "Can't seat you. kitchen closed 15 minutes ago" But you're open for dinner until 9. Sorry, can't seat you. I always looked forward to a dinner at the River Ranch whenever I was in Tahoe to ski. Not anymore.

The room was nicer than I thought it would be..and definitely nicer than it looked from the outside. It was clean and comfortable. The bedding was comfortable. Room had a mini fridge and coffee maker, but nothing else. This would had been ok cause there is a lovely and good restaurant on the premises, but unfortunately it was closed most of the time due to staff being out with Covid. The setting and view of the Truckee River from the room was gorgeous, and you are right at the top of the access road for Alpine Meadows. Danielle, the manager, was very sweet and accommodating and went beyond the call of duty to keep me happy. My only complaint or suggestion, is all the tables were extremely small and there was little drawer space for unpacking. But I look forward to staying there again, especially when the restaurant is open.…

I stopped by with my family for some drinks and appetizers. They do have some tables available on first come, first serve basis so we were able to sit after a short wait. It is nice that the restaurant already has an outdoor area and it is not makeshift in the parking lot. It is also a great view of the river. The food was surprisingly delicious (though equally pricey.) Service was lacking. First, you had to walk all the way in, past the bar and outdoor areas to speak to the host. When the server came over to take our order, he seemed really stressed and busy. We tried to ask about the menu and he half answered a couple of questions before he just said he would be back and walked away. We ordered additional drinks while eating and it took a very long time for us to receive. It appeared the server had gone around to all the tables in the place to ask if they had ordered them before he finally remembered they were ours. I noticed that a lot of this seemed to be going on. When done, we asked for the check. The server brought it to us. I set down a credit card and he took it. After waiting for a while we asked about it and he brought us a brand new check. We told he we had already provided a card. Then he looked through his pockets and pulled out another credit card and asked if it was ours. It was not (security?). He walked away and after a while came back with the correct card. Aside from this, face masks were not enforced. The bartender spent a lot of time talking to a handful of young women. They had no mask, his was below his chin. No social distance. Walking out, customers walked in with no mask at all and no one to tell them otherwise. Considering the food, I may try eating here again. But I will likely wait until the pandemic is over.…

Because of COVID they do have limited outdoor seating for dinner which they start serving at 5:30. We sat right by the river wall and watched all of the Summer rafters coming in. The dinner menu had a nice variety with medium to high prices. They had a good wine selection and the waiter was very friendly. The patio area is quite large and is open for lunch service all day. The restaurant is right on the river and has beautiful views.

We have been coming to River Ranch Lodge for a long time. I almost hesitate to write this review but judging from the happy customers it is hardly a secret. Located 2 miles north of Tahoe City RR is a charming rustic fun place to stay. Excellent location and it is so entertaining sitting out on the patio to watch the rafters and tubers and even those paddling down on giant Flamingos pull out while having great casual food on the deck. The restaurant inside was closed because of Covid but I have eaten there many times and the food is wonderful. The rooms are clean and the service is lovely. RR is a true gem and we will definitely be back.
