Experience the historic Hotel St. Nicholas and enjoy an elegant and romantic 1898 mountain inn. Originally built as Cripple Creek’s first hospital, the hotel experienced a rich history serving the miners and gold kings who led the 1890’s gold rush. The restored hotel, quietly located just two blocks from gaming, features 15 individually decorated rooms, a rooftop Jacuzzi, a dry-sauna, the on-site Boiler Room Tavern, a full-service events room, and a full continental breakfast.

The St. Nicholas was built in 1898 by Catholic Sisters as a hospital. If you like old buildings turned into hotels, this one should not be missed. The staff is minimal, but very friendly and helpful. There is a nice bar in the old boiler room and pool tables in the lounge area. Each room has a history and is decorated differently, We enjoyed our room and would stay there any time we go to Cripple Creek.

Such a unique place to stay. So much history! The staff was super friendly and nice job by housekeeping. Completely smoke free, which we appreciated. So much fun to hear the creaks and groans of such a historic place. *Almost* wish we had seen a ghost.

What a wonderful historic place to stay with a great host! The host Bill took good care of our family and the bartender (I didn’t get his name) was friendly as well. My 13 year old son (Bill the younger lol) enjoyed staying in a historic building much more than I expected. Now our only problem is finding new reasons to return to Cripple Creek so we can stay there again!

My goodness. This place was rough. It was dark, dreary and tired. Finding the entrance was a chore and there was nobody at the front desk. The owner showed up and gave us our room assignment which was on the 3rd floor with no elevator. We went straight to check out the room. The bedding was from 1985 and worn. Everything about it was creepy. Room 17. We left for dinner and as we waited for our meal I read about the St Nicholas. It was a hospital and was known to have 3 ghosts that roamed the hallways! The whole place gave me the creeps. I told my husband there was no way I was staying. So we returned to the hotel and I told the owner that things were not as expected. He jumped right in and said he knew the elevation had a severe effect on some people and we did not have to stay and he would not charge us. I was relieved because I didn’t want to insult him with details of our departure. We had never put anything in the room so we left and stayed in Woodland Park at a lovely cabin. The St Nicholas was not our kind of “ restored hotel” that we would have slept in. If you go there, I hope you enjoy it.

Wonderful hotel with lots of history! Great location to restaurants, casinos, and local attractions. Very quiet, clean, and accommodating. Take and go breakfast in the morning and small bar with interesting whisky flights.

Best kept secret in Cripple Creek. What a fun, historical, bed and breakfast, in the theme of Cripple Creek, getaway. We absolutely loved the history, the environment, and being able to completely get off of the "grid" for two full days. We will definitely be back for our overnight stays when we go up for a show at the Butte and a little gambling.

Very disappointed. When staying at a Bed and Breakfast I expect an actual breakfast. Not a tiny continental limited breakfast. A Holiday Inn has better breakfast. We were limited to a muffin, a granola bar, a banana and a small bottle of OJ for 4 people. Since Covid these places have used it as an excuse to cut costs while maintaining prices. A B&B is 50% part of the breakfast, so to not have that is ridiculous. The front desk was friendly, the beds were hard. But I wouldn’t recommend until they start serving breakfast again!

Hotel St. Nicholas was a charming experience. We wanted a weekend get away, and it was perfect! (even has it's own bar in the hotel!) The hotel was clean, the staff was so pleasant and helpful - we would definitely go again!

I loved that it was in town and not part of a casino. I found the place very charming. The beds were comfortable. The rooms could have been cleaner. Everything was just dated and worn. The boiler room tavern was great. However, the bar tender seemed ‘bombed out of his mind’. A few times when he came back from the back room, things smelled funny. Brad, front desk clerk, was very friendly. The women who helped him, assuming his wife, was very curt. I would like to stay there again but it needs some updating. Old is great but shabby is not.

We recently stayed at the Hotel St Nicholas and were greatly disappointed. The hotel itself is a cold, dark and dingy place. The room we stayed in (the surgery) looked like it hadn't been cleaned since the hospital closed. There was dirt between the beds and furniture and the whole room had a musty smell. There was a little table lamp by one of the beds that it would be impossible to read by, and the other small light by the other bed was not plugged in to a socket because there was no socket. The only other light in the room was a three bulb contraption on the ceiling that glared down blindingly. The breakfast was a cold "to go" that you selected it's contents the night before, but of all the the items I selected, the only one that they got right was the one hard boiled egg. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
