I knew we wanted to stay in downtown Durango, and relied upon Trip Advisor ~ voila! We spent a delightful 3 nights at the Strater! Our room was gigantic, and had a front-of-the-hotel view of Main Street. We booked a queen-queen, and it literally was like two rooms together! Perfect for our family of four! Breakfast was a nice touch... More

This hotel is inviting and grand, and it has kept its historical character while adding a reasonable range of modern amenities. Excellent maintenance. The location cannot be beat. You can walk to a wide range of galleries, restaurants and shops within a couple of blocks. The staff is really superior. As someone who has lived in Colorado for many years,... More

Good location in the middle of town, staff courteous, very good breakfast, classy décor of good-old western movies. Our room on the 4th floor was cold despite the warm temp outside probably because of the old and high ceiling. Parking is across the street. We didn't have problem crossing the busy street. But some customs may need extra butler help... More

.... this would be their love child. My opinions about this hotel are mixed. First, it is a charming building with a perfect location downtown. The lobby, which is historic and appealing, has been maintained just the same as it was when I visited 40 years ago and multiple times between, The staff was top-notch in every respect. The real... Love these sorts of hotels... So rich in lore and history.... Always down town so just park yourself in this great little town and enjoy everything from great restaurants to quaint little boutiques.... Or do as I did...... just enjoy the hotel, the great staff, the well appointed rooms, and there in house restaurant and saloon..... Look no further when... More

Very comfortable hotel with lots of history and charm. Bedrooms very comfortable, whilst not being terribly spacious. The bars are welcoming and the menus are varied to suite all. Watch out for the bar maids in their traditional clothing. As for breakfast the continental menu is the most generous I have experienced maintaining excellent quality. Do try the breakfast soup.... OK, lets be honest. You don't stay at the Strater for huge rooms with a modern bath and a mini bar. Anyone who marks it down for being what it is, should not be staying here. You stay at the Strater because you love histric boutique hotels, because you love the look and ambiance of antique furniture that is yes,... More

Stayed 2 nights and have nothing bad to say about the Strater, but also struggle to find anything outstanding to mention. The reason you stay here is all the history - late 19th century, Louis L'Amour, and so on. Location is great, downtown near shopping and restaurants. And the room (#422) was spacious, clean, and quite comfortable. However, the age... More

Stayed here a number of times and will stay again while in Durango. Historic hotel, very comfortable. The rooms are spacious and decorated with early 20th century decor. The hotel restaurant and bar are great as well.
