My fiance and I got a laugh out of the room, it was everything Fish. A little unnerving with all the fish staring at you, but it was a place to stay at the very least. I heard that every room has a different theme, so it is worth the chuckle at the very least. Very friendly staff.

Don't waste your time here unless you like bedding with zero support.. This is one of those motels that are in the business of taking your money, yet never updating anything. If I had to guess, the mattress set probably dated back to the 60's judging by the baby blue print that was on the covering. Everything here is dated.... More

The Owners, Are Friendly People. Rooms are Cozy and Clean. The other hotels and Motels pale by comparison. Room Rates at the Rio Grande Motel are less than the competitors; once you agree on the price... is set! For 2.5 years; the Rio Grande Motel, made our stay, a very pleasant one. Thank you Rio Grande Motel, for everything.

Stopped here on a motorcycle road trip. Had seen it before and thought I would give it a try. Paid almost $90 for a room. Almost double the amount I had paid for any room at the typical "Mom and Pop" motels in more than a month of travel from coast to coast. I am a stringer for three motorcycle... More

End of the day looking for motels, stopped in Monte Vista. Picked this motel. Price was a little more than what we had been paying ($90 vs $68) but did not have much choice. Staff was friendly, free wifi, rooms were clean, included a fridge. Fireworks in town since it was the 3rd of July. Found a nice liquor store... More

I ended up in Monte Vista unexpectedly when snow closed the pass I needed to traverse to get to my destination. The town is unbelievably overpriced for a noplace-special destination. This seems to be the cheapest place in town - the location adjacent to a gas station absolutely screams Cheap! Cheap! - but I was still charged over 50 bucks... More

I am so sorry that your stay at our motel was less than desirable. We have contacted our internet service provider and are working on the weak wireless signal. I know that doesn't help you, but it did bring it to our attention so that we can assure future guests don't experience the same problem. As for the used washcloth... More

We ended up staying here because the town nearest the sand dunes (Alamosa) was completely booked. We were happy with our room - it was very clean. The decor was very outdoorsy with a big stuffed-pillow fish on the wall and deer on the bedspread. Our middle-school aged son LOVED it! He kept referring to it as our "5 star... More

We've stayed there now on two separate occassions. The owners are friendly and the room, well, it's just delightful. Nothing modern but full of character and charm. We're going back to ride the train down in Antonito. This motel is a lot farther away than other places to stay but we like it so much we'll stay there again and... More

I must admit that my heart sank as we pulled up outside the stop that we had booked by phone the previous evening. Speaking as a light sleeper, the proximity of the gas station and tyre depot right outside the window was not promising. However, my misgivings were unjustified. The proprietor, a cheery fellow from Alabama, chatted with me for... More

There are four motels in Monte Vista. The Rio Grande is the cheapest. I paid $45 for a non-smoking room with a king bed on a Saturday night in December. Of late I've tried to stay in older non-chain motels both for the old-style charm and the cheaper prices. The Rio Grande Motel exceeded my expectations. Spotlessly clean, the room... More
