Well I have to say it was a welcome site to find the Rio Cucharas. And an awesome mornng view with my coffee : ) The owner was more than helpful with any thing that I needed. I loved his "pups" but I am a big dog lover anyways. The rooms are done in a bit of old spanish style...which... More

We stayed here with our two children on the way to Great Sand Dunes National Park, along with 3 other families. It is directly on the highway to the park, but don't worry about the road noise. Instead, you'll have to contend with an extremely smoky lobby, large and enthusiastic dogs free in the lobby "welcoming" you, a staff that... More

We stayed at the motel for seven weeks while waiting to move into our new home. The managers and staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we loved the down home atmosphere. It is an older motel but the rooms were clean and nice and we loved the fact the rooms were so large. We enjoyed going down for the... More

My family and I had to attend a funeral in the local area and selected this property. We stayed there Friday night 9/30/2011 through 10/2/2011 and I can assure you that we will never stay there again. We had rented 3 rooms. The first room had rat droppings and blood on the bathroom floor; the second had feces on the... More

Not business accommidating at all. Internet cutting in and out. Looks better outside than in, thanks to the mountains. Rooms are from the 70's, so is the rest of the place. It is quiet but the beds are so old and uncomfortable. Not clean at all. Thats the worse of it. Lobby smelled like cigarette smoke so bad it was gross.... More

Remodeled? The toilet seat in our bathroom hadn't even been changed out, in several years it looks like. The tub likewise scratched and chipped. Carpets filthy, vacuumed maybe but not steam cleaned in years and definitely not new for decades. Remote for TV did not work. Internet password for WIFi did not work. No locks on room-to-room door at all,... More

We have been going to Lathrop state park for years and noticed that it is now catering to RV's. So several years ago we decided to try Rio Cucharas and have been happy with the quality of the rooms for the price, as well as the free breakfast and the friendliness of the people running the motel. If you enjoy... More

Colleagues wrinkled their noses when, as we entered the dining area, a couple of over zealous dogs broke loose (pets are welcome to stay here) and chased in through the doorless opening to the patio. We had been attracted by the exceptionally frugal prices on the menu and the obvious BEAUTY OF THE PLACE. The managers were exceptionally hospitable and... More

Located about 5 miles of Walsenburg's town center on 160, Rio Cucharas Inn is one of the best-kept secrets we've encounters. Rustic and charming, done in adobe style with Southwestern decor, the rooms are clean, charmingly appointed and equipped with micro and fridge. Service at the front desk is gracious and accommodating, and the view of the Spanish Peaks/Sangre de... More

I have stayed at tthis hotel off and on for 1 year. The rooms were always very clean. The staff very friendly. If I had a problem they fixed it as soon as I told them about it. Very quiet. with outstanding views of the Spanish Peaks. They keep up grading rooms and the breakfast was just right.
