Same as everyone below has said - it's not the newest building or certainly even updated recently. Interestingly, looked like the bathrooms had had a facelift in the last 5 years with newer tile and countertops, but for some inexplicable reason they kept the brass-and chrome 80s looking faucets that were so well worn the brass had rubbed off. Seems... More

The Whitehall used to be quite a plush hotel, designed to feel like a men's club. Unfortunately not much has been updated for a long time and it definitely has a tired and frayed look and feel. However, the location is fantastic (Gold Coast, one block from Michigan Ave), the price is right (low) and the staff is friendly and... More

Across the street from the Four Seasons and a stone's throw from the Hancock Tower puts the Whitehall in a primo area. However, once inside the hotel you find an tired, older facility lacking the modern amenities of most other high rise hotels. Indoor pool and/or spa? Nope. Ice machines? Nada! Fitness room? If you want to call it that.... More

The hotel is a Chicago GEM!!! This old hotel has all kinds of charm. The staff made the weekend very enjoyable. The rooms are small but quaint. Easy walk to almost everything. Quick cab ride to Navy Pier. Great fun. Worth the money.

Stayed for three nights while work was being done on my nearby condo. Excellent North Michigan Ave. location. Comfortable beds with quality linens and duvet, excellent A/C small bathrooms with shower in tub. If you don't plan on spending anytime in your room other than sleep this older, non chain hotel is for you. Very friendly staff, and while elevators... More

Money hole Tiny cramped lobby and elevators Thin walls Very dated Musty smell, damp feeling Views of brick wall on 3 of the sides... if you're lucky, you get the dumpster side with the 5AM wake up call of the trucks Got charged for making local calls after asking staff... was never told there was a charge (FYI, 1min or... I used to stay here regularly about 7-8 years ago. I was back for the first time since then. Great location but in need of some nips and tucks. Older, feeling a bit stuffy and gloomy. Nice people - very friendly. Independent hotel - not part of any chains.

The hotel is located very close to Water Tower and shopping areas on the Michigan Street. Unlike other areas, this area is considered to be safe for tourists. The Hop on Hop off bus stop is also very near and in fact it is in front Water tower. The hotel itself is nice but certainly not a four star. The... More

We stayed for three nights over a weekend. The hotel Is close to shops and other amenities, and bus stops and train are a few minutes walk. There is no view, a small bar and a small lobby. But it is a centre hotel I suppose. Our room felt like it hadn't been used in years, and decor not updated... More
