First, remember this hotel was built in the mid 1800s. Rooms are quaint, clean and amble room. The 'tavern' restaurant was very good. Great place to explore Galena, walk out the front door and you are on the main Street with all the shops. The courtyard is currenlty under construction but that really doesnt cause any problems. Resturants are right down the street, within walking distance. They also have a parking garage which makes it nice.

I had been to Galena before, to shop and sightsee. It's an historic town in a scenic area. But I had never stayed overnight. My brother and I took advantage of a mid-week special room rate that included breakfast at the oldest operating hotel in Illinois. Stayed for a mid-week special and got a great price on a parlor suite. The price of the room included breakfast, which was ordered off the menu and was very good. The room was clean and up to date. galena is a very nice small town with lots of charm. The DeSoto house is an historic hotel where US Grant had his campaign headquarters and Abe Lincoln and other famous folks came to stay.
