I have stayed at this H.I. twice for business in the last few month. The hotel has been refurbished, but is handicapped by poor design that really shows off its age. For example: the bathrooms in both rooms (two room suites) were very very small.
It has a very convenient location on Merle Hay road with lots of food choices...

It's an older Holiday Inn that has been remodeled but done well. Very clean and looks new. Bathrooms are small but room was fine.
We certainly found a respite in a storm, having stopped in Des Moines on a snowy, icey evening...this property is unassuming hidden behind another larger resort-style hotel chain, no great views, a quick skip off Interestate 80, very convenient esp if you're traveling. Very few good restaurants in the area, certainly non w/in walking distance. The young woman at check-in...

I'm loyal to the holiday inn and try not to post negative comments. I travel 3-4 nights per week and still am looking for the place to stay in Des Moines . I've stayed here 6 or 7 times but last night was my last. There was "left overs" in the toilet when I got there. Coffee pot was dirty...

We had a last minute trip to Des Moines that happened to coincide with the 2012 Presidential Caucus. So there were limited rooms available and it seemed that prices were a little higher than warranted. Staff was great, furniture and amenities seemed a little old for the prices (may have been due to occupancy rate of the city). Everything was...

We booked this hotel with a bargain basement rate through Hotwire. Had seen poor reviews, but had also noticed those reviews were getting older. We had a very nice experience. The room was clean, modern, and comfortable. The pool area is enormous (I'm guessing it was once a Holidome) and the sound echoes, but the kids loved the pool and...

My husband and I stayed in a junior suite w/ king sized bed. There was a $20 pet fee and policy to follow, and it was respectful and reasonable. The bed was amazingly comfortable with a variety of firm, medium, and soft pillows. I didn't swim or use the hot tub, but I took a look and will make sure...

I was rather reluctant to stay here given the poor reviews on Tripadvisor, however a last minute trip to Des Moines during the Iowa State Fair left me no other hotel choice within 40 miles. The price was far higher than it should have been but it seems like every hotel in the area raises their prices at that time...

First off, thank you for staying with us. I am sorry your stay did not go as well as planned, the first weekend of the State Fair is always a busy time in Des Moines. Our front desk staff should not have complained about the reservation not stating you had a pet, and simply explained our hotels pet policy and...

I stayed here for business not personal travel. The lobby wasn't bad, but once passed that the hotel was very dated. My room was musty smelling, something that was difficult to get out of my clothes. I spent 5 days here and staff was great. My room had a very nice LCD tv and the beds were comfortable. The appearance...

Thank you for your review. I am sorry your room had a musty smell, I am not sure if you let our front desk staff know, but we would have gladdly moved you to another room to make your stay more pleasant. If there is anything we can do for you let us know.
