My colleagues and I visited Elk Glade this week and it was truly a magical experience. Jim and his team are deeply invested in creating special memories for guests. We were fortunate to enjoy horseback riding, the ATVs, and learn some of the rich history of the location that spans back over generations. If you are looking for an authentic Colorado experience, I would highly recommend Elk Glade. Once again, thank you to Jim and team!

We had a fabulous day with Jim and his team doing a cattle drive. The setting is breathtaking and upon our arrival we were greeted by a herd of big horn sheep. Doing a cattle drive was a bucket list item we were looking to check off and the day did not disappoint. Jim insured we had the right horse and knew the basics before we set off in search of the herd. They were incredibly patient with our teenage son. We enjoyed a brisk but sunny Colorado day, found the herd and drove them back to the ranch enjoying the beautiful rivers and mountains. Afterwards we had a fabulous lunch. If you get an opportunity to do this, we would highly recommend.

My family had visited Elk Glade a few years ago and has since not stopped talking about the slice of heaven this place is. This July, the rest of our family was able to join for a long weekend at Elk Glade and I can attest, it really was as amazing as they’d described. Fantastic food, cozy sleeping arrangements and friendly staff. We had a blast riding horses and driving cattle, riding atvs & hiking up mountains, getting to know the staff on the property and most of all, spending time in the outdoors, making memories as a family. Can’t recommend enough! Note: There is no plumbing but a well-maintained outhouse.

I love being at Elk Glade ranch. It is my favorite vacation spot. I loved riding the hoses and the four wheelers. But my most favorite part was spending time with the people there. Spending time with Jim was my favorite part and get the time to talk with him. The ride up to the ranch is always fun and an experience. It was great to go back after three years. I'm glad I could share it with the rest of my family. Jim is such a great host. The meals were amazing and the sleeping arrangements were great. The shower was a little difficult since I am short and the water handle was so high. Other than that it was the best time and the best part of my vacation. I am so grateful that I was able to go back out to spend it with Jim again. Thank you so much! I miss you Jim and the ranch and everyone! Evie Ward

This place is breathtaking. It’s like someone took a painting and brought it to life and we were giving the opportunity to step inside this moment in time. The views, magnificent, amazing horse riding, ATVing, lunch by a wonderful outgoing chef who did so much more than just give a meal. Everyone here has their sole in this place and we could see why. We will definitely be back. This is not an opportunity you are going to want to miss.

I can’t express my gratitude enough to Jim Johnson for providing us with a day that we will not forget. Starting with the drive to the ranch which took an hour through stunning scenery on a dirt road. Only to be warmly greeted by Jim Johnson on a lovely ranch. The horses he put us on were extremely well trained and sure footed. Our trail guide, Hudson, was the kindest ranch hand we ever met and made the ride even better. I can not describe the beauty of the scenery around us. We were going through trees, up hills, through a bit of water, and saw some wildlife. I would highly recommend this experience for anyone who loves beautiful horses and horseback riding. We can’t wait to visit Elk Glade Ranch again and will be back next summer! Thank you, Mattie-Mae and Laurie

I went on a cattle drive with Jim and the Elk Glade Outfitters team earlier this month. Transportation was arranged for us to East Beaver Valley and Jim was very intentional about pairing us up with the right horse and making sure we maximized our experience. Jim and his staff were very attentive throughout our ride. Traversing up the valley and through the woods was an exhilarating experience and something I would highly recommend for those who love to ride. The Elk Glade Outfitters property is must-see and worth the trip. Thanks Jim!

Ranches is this magnificent, this historic, this ancestral, ,are normally ultra private, guarded, and unaccessible. Elk Glade is different :they open their gate and welcome you! After spending one afternoon here I felt compelled to thank the good Lord for my fortunate discovery .I’ve never written a review to anything but felt it a human obligation to share how blessed I was by Jim and his daughters Lauren and Jamie for opening up their unique property. I felt like I walked through a secret door and revisited the America that Lewis and Clark saw :full of untouched nature, wild animals ,magnificent forested vistas ,and clear running mountain streams. This is the REAL WEST -no props or reproductive artifacts bought on the Internet. The 1800s Hotel was not much different than when it was used by the stage coach line. You felt like Kit Carson could be staying in the adjoining room. The massive historic barn was milled on the property at the end of the 1800s. We took four wheelers through a foot of snow to 10,000 feet and found his remuda in a setting worthy of a magazine cover. It took my breath away. My adrenaline from all that I was seeing had kept me warm but when we returned to the old hotel I realized I was pretty darn cold. Jim’s cook (I think his name was Keith and would be suitable for any John Wayne movie)had a pot of hot stew on the stove and some potatoes and wild game cooked in duckfat. The food was as gourmet tasting as anything in NYC but was cooked in a kitchen similar to the one on the TV series “Lonesome Dove”. As I drove out the ranch gate I recalled an old quote that says “you seldom remember what people say but you can recall vividly how they made you feel”. Jim and his daughters Lauren and Jamie left me feeling blissfully intoxicated by the Old West . Randy Imel

From the moment that we made it to the ranch until we left… it was an incredible experience that the whole family will treasure for years to come! Jim, Andrew, Ella were perfect hosts and guides; they truly cared about making our day something special! Beautiful horses, scenery, and weather! If you are looking for an opportunity to corral some cattle and ride an ATV over the majestic scenery… then this is the perfect spot!! Definitely worth the trip from Pennsylvania and the money that we spent!

Have ridden many horses in many places, but Elk Glade is one of the best experiences of all. Excellent horses and beautiful scenery, Jim and Lauren Johnson will set you up for whatever riding you desire - based on your experience, of course. Have had two "mountain top" rides on two different dates at this ranch. The experience never disappoints. Highly recommended for whatever you're looking for: horses, terrain, technical riding, cattle drive, friendly hosts, and/or a good lunch and beer- beer based on legal age, of course!
