You have been warned!! Firstly, we paid $110 per night which we thought was reasonable for a ski area....until we got there. The outside of the building looks nice, the lobby - old fashioned and in need of re-decorating - but ok. The lady at the reception (mother of the owner) was friendly and asked us to let her know... This place is perfect. After a day on the slopes it was so nice to sit in the comfortable, charming lobby talking with friend over a game of cards and a good selection of drinks. The service is top notch. We have already. Booked our next stay. More

The Herbert is a warm and friendly hotel within easy driving distance of the beautiful Sugarloaf Area. The staff really cares about the comfort of guests and took the time to make us feel welcomed. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The expansive lobby, wide staircases and high ceilings are impressive. The Herbert's idiosyncratic decor adds to the charm of... More

We drive through Kingfield frequently on our way to and from Sugarloaf, and I always dreamed about staying at the historic Herbert Grand Hotel. So one night my husband surprised me and booked a room. The first impression was great: The hotel lobby is really exquisite, full of gorgeous antiques and very charming. Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there.... More

We stayed her because they dogs could stay in the room at night and it was under 3200$ per night for a holiday weekend. We have been to the area many times but only stayed at the Sugarloaf lodge and Inns...never anywhere else in the area. It was quite simple, no phone, no hairdryer, only one outlet in the room,... My family stayed here during Christmas week. The hotel is a lot of fun. The lobby is like stepping back in time with old woodworking, marble floors, a fireplace, couches and plenty of space to relax. Every day after skiing, we sat downstairs for happy hour before going to dinner. The rooms were clean and the lady behind the desk... More

This was a wonderful hotel with exceptional service. The price was fair and the fireplace in our room added to the romantic ambiance. It was cozy, comfortable, and worth an extra day's stay. Additional tidbits: Free Parking; short & easy drive to Sugarloaf (hotel provides you with maps, stickers, and more-- if you don't have a car, a Sugarloaf van... More

We drove 10 hours to visit family in Kingfield and booked this "Grand" Hotel for two nights in late September, 2011. The day we arrived was unseasonably warm. We checked in at 4pm. We did not see the "quaintness" of this hotel. It was old and dingy. There were numerous motorcycles in the parking lot directly below our room. We... More

This is an old hotel in the middle of nowhere Maine. It is off the beaten path but WELL worth the trip back in time. The place has a grand old lobby and a great upstairs porch where they serve wine and beer. My buddies and I stumbled upon it while on a ride up to Canada and it was... More

My preference for lodging is a historical inn or bed and breakfast but rarely can I afford to stay in one but no worry about the pocketbook here at the Herbert. I was a guest at a wedding at a farm located in Kingsfield, Maine where the Herbert Grand is located. This venue was chosen for out of town guest... More
