We had a wonderful stay with Sarah at The Tipsy Butler in the autumn. We loved Damariscotta and mid-Maine - both the coast and the woods are absolutely beautiful (see photos) - and hope very much to return. We were fortunate enough to be the only guests staying at the B & B as it was the very end of... More

I've been visiting Newcastle/Damariscotta all of my life. I wish I'd discovered the Tipsy Butler earlier. Sarah is an innkeepers innkeeper. Our family of five "moved in," and Sarah met us at every level of our need. She was warm and friendly with our "children," 19, 21, and 23. She fed us well, with unique and delicious breakfasts. She was... More

We have been regular campers in the area, and were looking for a place to stay instead of camping. The Tipsy Butler ended up being a wonderful choice, within short walking distance to Damariscotta, yet away from the hustle and bustle that occurs in town during summer. Sarah was so attentive and helpful, going far beyond what we have experienced... More

It was a dark and stormy night in Mid-Coast Maine. Lightening was flashing, thunder booming, rain coming down in sheets. The couple drove slowly up the quiet lane seeing the large, old house for the first time. As they noticed the warm, welcoming glow of the light in the windows a movement caught their eye--was it the ghost of legend,... More

The Tipsy Butler is in a decent location. The strip of Rt 1 B on the Damariscotta River has everything you need for a decent weekend away. Several decent pubs, kayaking, several bakeries and a small amount of shopping are all within walking distance. Sarah is a great hostess and will definitely do whatever she can to make your stay... We stayed here two nights to attend a wedding. Sarah and Tony were an absolute delight to get to know. And, they went out of their way to help us with all our needs including the scrabble set and where to find the old swimming hole. It's hard for us to rate the facility as a B&B since this was... Ditto to all the positive comments that have been previously posted. This B & B by itself would deserve at least a 4-star rating. It is the innkeeper Sarah that makes it a 5-star operation. Genuinely concerned for her guests, she is attentive without being intrusive, always available and accommodating and a joy to converse with. Be it the local... More

I would rate as best of the available, wife would prefer the other choice. Her thoughts were on ambient noise, both highway and other. I liked the large clean room with the very comfortable bed. Exterior of building needs work to restore some of the charm, but inside it is all very tidy. Ice and hot water for tea were... More

I'm a pretty picky person so if I were to nitpick about pretty meaningless stuff, I would probably give this inn a "very good" but Sarah, the innkeeper, is so awesome that she alone earns the excellent rating. She's the type that just wants everyone to be happy all the time and if you're not asking her to help you... More

My "man-friend" and I spent one night at the Tipsy Butler and just loved it. The Innkeeper, Sarah, has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. The common rooms are cheerful and cozy. Coffee and ice are available 24/7. The second floor hall has a small refigerator stocked with sodas and waters for you to take and... More
