Yes, the Charlemont Inn is a bit run down and you might have to share a bath but that is the charm of the stay. Home cooked food, great breakfasts, playing Scrabble in the bar and the great local entertainment more than makes up for the lack of "modern conveniences". We have a great time every time we stay.

We ended up here on accident as we were stranded in the middle of the Halloween Nor'easter. We thought for sure we would have spent the night on the side of the road, without food, but had decided to to try driving a little further. Lucky for us we had seen the sign for the Charlemont Inn, which also advertised... More

The Charlemont has had very little re model since Ben Franklin walked its floors. Staying here would be like staying in a museum. While the history was fascinating, we actually moved on - at the owner's encouragement. My friend and I are both professional women who happen to be "biker chicks" and we received a less than enthusiastic reception. She... More

This place is beyond gross, it would be preferable to spend the night in a car. When we saw our rooms my daughter cried. The electric outlets were not working, one room had no light at all as the overhead light was smashed and lay broken on the floor. Water flowed from a hand basin directly on to the floor.... More

this is an old Inn (really a rooming house) that is not maintained, peeling paint, burnt-out light bulbs, broken windows & shades, no soap, fire alarm went off twice during night, check in people all hours without explaining a "shared bath" (they all took showers & baths @ 2 am and locked us out of bath) heat didn't work in... Upon arriving we were overwhelmed by the smell of garbage coming from the dumpster in the parking lot. From the outside, poorly maintained grounds, peeling paint, windows with curtains hanging askew made it look as though we were at the wrong address, not the charming B&B advertised on the web. As mentioned in other reviews, we had to find someone... More

I stayed here in the fall of '07 after spending the night here following a nearby wedding a few summers earlier. Everybody I talked to, from the bartender to some regulars to the owners, were super friendly, down-to-earth people. Yeah, you might have to walk into the bar in order to check-in, but really, its not that big of a... More

With some TLC & repairs this could be a charming place to stay. Unfortunately, we had a less than memorable experience. As reported by other reviewers, we had to roust someone out of the restaurant kitchen to check us in. We were given a room that had not been cleaned, so we had to go back downstairs, find the chef... The room was fine, although the woman charged me $20 more than the rates posted on the website, which I didn't notice until I got home. Dining though, was horrid, t took a good long time for the waitress to take our order, I had to remind her twice about the beverages we ordered. I never did get a glass... More
