This place rocks. The extra cost over in-town hotels/inns is well worth it. The property abuts the BWCA and is perfect for winter or summer visits, when a day trip into the BWCA is plenty. We skied and snowboarded into the BWCA and returned in time for a soothing sauna and the best meal you'll ever have in Ely (as... More

I have just returned from a three night stay here and it was everything I had hoped it would be and more. First of all the location right next to the Boundary Waters felt like paradise. They have had even more snow than us and the trees were covered. The hosts for the B & B, Jan and Bill, were... More

First, the good. The B&B is in a beautiful setting, with terrific views and great proximity to the BWCA. The rooms are clean and well-kept, the beds very comfortable. The bird feeders attract lots of great birds, there are lots of homemade jams and things at breakfast, and Sam, the proprietor's dog, is at the ready with a wag and... More

Many B&B's restrict children in order to cater to the couples market. Others are so full of fussy antiques that it's like you are sleeping in a museum. That's fine, I suppose but it limits your options if you are traveling with a kid. This B&B is run by a really nice couple who gave us lots of ideas for... More

Tucked down a lane in the woods and overlooking a lake, the owners have designed their lovely home with a lot of thought and loving care. The minute you walk into the lounge area, you feel relaxed; it has a lovely 'woodsy ' feel but there is no compromise on luxury. We stayed in 'So Forth' which was so comfortable... More

Luxury under the stars surrounded by peace, with friendly and competent owners, and very nice rooms and a small restaurant. We arrived late and there were welcoming notes on both entrances lest we not feel lost. Dinner was just finishing and were greeted and walked to our room. A walk onto the deck put us under stars with no lights... More

Blue Heron B&B is located on a lake and they have canoes if you want to go out. I stayed in the "So On" room, located upstairs with a door to the outside deck. Jo and Bill are wonderful hosts. There are two common areas, one upstairs with access to microwave and frig, and one downstairs. They provide a common... More

Just returned from spending two lovely nights at this Bed and Breakfast. We have been going to Ely for well over 20 years to camp in the BWCA. To celebrate our 61st birthdays, we decided to try a dog sled adventure. We chose to go on a day long dog sled trip through White Wilderness and learned of the Blue... More

We stayed at the Blue Heron as part of a 3 day dogsledding trip. Jo and Bill were gracious hosts who cooked outstanding breakfasts. Our room was comfortable, the common space were inviting, and the sauna was heated every evening. The Blue Heron is located 6 miles off of the main highway through Ely and is located on a large... The Blue Heron B & B is very beautiful, clean, and quiet. We really enjoyed our stay. The B & B is tastefully decorated, our bed was very comfortable, and the scenery, of course, is unbeatable!! There is plenty to do if you are the outdoorsy-type. Hiking, birdwatching, canoeing are just some of the activities available. Our host and hostess were very... More
