We had a lovely get away with friends for a weekend. The historic house is like a castle. Isabel, the innkeeper, is most gracious and gave us a wonderful tour of the house with the complete history and explanation of all the fabulous details. The rooms are comfortable, the water pressure is good, the temperature control is excellent, and the... More

Decided to stay here for a business trip over the local chain hotels. Amazing architecture and stained glass greet you upon entering, perfect front porch for a relaxing afternoon, delicious and thoughtful breakfasts, and elegantly appointed rooms with free Wi-Fi throughout. A quick drive from Benedictine College or Northwest Missouri State for parents visiting students and within walking distance of... More

On our way home to St. Louis, my wife and I decided to spend a night in St. Joseph, Mo. after visiting friends in Kansas City.. It was a good decision because we found a delightful restored mansion, run by a hands-on, energetic innkeeper, Isobel. The experience lived up to the positive reviews online, and I think this was one... More

This is one of those "off the beaten path" kind of places that makes you wonder why you would EVER want to stay in a chai hote. The mansion itself is an architectural masterpiece, both inside and out. Isobel the innkeeper has dedicated herself to saving this American cultural treasure, and I'm thankful she is operating it as a B&B... More

First off, the owner is an extremely wonderful host. Upon our visit we were given an amazing tour of the estate, which showcased it's beautiful woodwork and wonderful stained glassed windows. The rooms are massive and all 3 have their uniqueness to them which adds to the beauty of the mansion. The Sweetheart Package was an amazing deal and the... More

We enjoyed our stay at this very historic hideaway in St. Joseph. What an amazing house. The owner was incredibly friendly as well as knowledgable about the history of not only the Chateau but also of the history of St. Joseph. Make sure you ask for a list of historic homes and check them all out.

The Shakespeare Chateau was the high high point of our trip to St. Joseph. Isobel treated us like long lost friends and couldn’t have made us feel more welcome in her home if she tried. Thanks to Isobel the Mansion has been restored to its former glory. The stained glass windows are truly amazing and it is hard to take... More

Did not stay there but took a tour of the home. It was lovely, had exquisite details and charm. The amenities were modern and top of the line. The stained glass windows were stunning but the fireplaces were my favorite. They were each unique and each had absolutely beautiful, one of a kind tile. Recommend this spot!

The majestic Shakespeare Chateau was built in 1885 by Nathan Ogden when St. Joseph Missouri was known as "The Queen of the River Cities." High atop a bluff looking down across the city toward the Missouri River, 809 Hall Street is one of several mansions in the Hall Street Historic District known locally as "Millionaires' Row." You'll enjoy meeting the friendly innkeeper, Isobel, as she takes you through the palatial interior. You'll marvel at 47 (yes, 47!) original stained glass windows, carved cherrywood and walnut mantles, and of course, a bust of the Bard himself above the grand fireplace in the front foyer.
