We stayed in a suite on the 3rd floor and enjoyed every moment of our time. (No noise from the bar at all.----but we did hear the trains, but for us that is a plus!) Both of the desk clerks did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. We loved stepping back in time and being right downtown close to... More

If your yardstick of hotel excellence is one of the major chains, then this is not the place for you. On the other hand, if you can appreciate a hotel full of tall tales and infamous patrons - and some rowdy neighbors - you will likely enjoy this hotel enormously. Every floorboard creeks. Every conversation can be overheard. The popular... More

Yes, the Murray does have its quirks, not least the assault on ear and sensibility when the bar below vibrates to the Health and Safety defying volume of the band - but not as bad as actually being in the bar! I suggest you don't try it unless you wish to realise that your room was actually quite quiet! However,... More

The Murray is a beautiful historic building with a variety of rooms and suites, some impressively large. I'd seen a number of the rooms in the past during a wedding, but had never stayed there. We got a room for Thanksgiving night, through, to save driving home from a wonderful shared dinner. Now, I know that location matters a lot.... More

The prior reviewers are spot on - if you get a room over the bar, don't plan to sleep until the band quits. The whole room vibrates. I figured this would be something to worry about on the weekend - but a Wednesday night in October? Really?

We stayed at the Murray Hotel and were totally disgusted with the state of the room that we were in and the noise factor. It was the only room available at the hotel at the time we booked(one other room became available shortly before we had to leave for our trip, but we were assured it is a lovely room... More

I stayed at the Murray on the way to Portland to pick up my daughter after college graduation and again with her on the way home to Wisconsin. Fantastic experience both times. I enjoyed two wonderful dinners in the adjoining 2nd Street Bistro. The best lodging and dining experiences I've had in years. Can't wait for another excuse to get... More

I was looking forward to visiting this historic hotel in beautiful downtown Livingston, so I decided not to worry about the fact that they told me our room would be located over the bar where there would be a live band until 2am. The room was simply, but lovingly appointed. It was obvious the staff takes great pride in the... More

We came in off the street to see if a room was available and we were told that as there was no music in the bar round the corner, she would give us room 215 which was directly over the bar. The receptionist said that if there was music she would have placed us in a different room as the... More
