Our booking was scheduled for just after the horriffic floods in the area in late January 2012 and were well prepared for the hardship which so commonly coinsides with a natural disaster. A real suprise awaited us as there was no evidence of any shortfall in service or logistic supply chain. From the smiling reception committee to the most helpful... More

This place is amazing. It was our first safari lodge and it set a very high benchmark for those that followed. Even before checking in we were wisked off on an afternoon safari drive and the first animal we saw was a cheetah, quickly followed by buffalo, a lion, rhino, giraffe..almost the big 5 in one afternoon. It was freezing,... More

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by a cheerful and warm staff, and when we were led to our cottage, we knew we were going to love every minute of our stay. Our cottage was a huge suite all to ourselves, sort of hidden in the woods, with wide windows opening onto the bush: great to admire... More

The Thornybush exceeded our expectations in every way possible. The lodge has a rustic, natural feel, yet is luxury in every aspect. The staff puts this place in a league of it's own - everyone from the host / hostess', the cleaning staff, cooking staff, waitstaff and especially the rangers and trackers go out of their way to make your... Whatever it was that my wife and I expected in a photo safari trip was vastly exceeded in every possible way. We were literally "up close and personal" with the Big 5 (lion, water buffalo, leopard, rhinoceros and elephant) every day. We also saw many, many other animals daily, including the likes of cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, deer and on and... More

Another amazing experience! We were able to see all the big game animals easily. The lions were the most amazing of course. We would have sundowners every evening out in the bush. Great staff, great guides. Another wonderful trip put together by Intrepid Expeditions'Simon Gluckman simon@intrepidexpeditions.com

I was looking for luxury accommodation at the last minute and was lucky to get a place at Thorny Bush Main lodge over the Christmas season. I stayed there for 4 nights. December is definitely NOT the right time to go on safari and as a South African I knew that and was prepared to take my chances. I was... More

This was our first safari experience and it exceeded our expectations in every way, starting from the moment we arrived and Donna, the manager, had freshly made passionfruit lemonade waiting for us, which we drank while watching nyalas at the watering hole in front of the lodge. The rooms are really casitas, very private from each other, and have the... More

To celebrate my 60th birthday as part of the holiday to SA we stayed at the Thornybush private game reserve. I can only praise everyone of the staff for their warm welcome and the way they looked after us during our 4 day stay. Nothing was too much trouble for them and was presented with a bithday cake after dinner... More
