Stayed for two nights.Liked everything about the place.Lovely building, lovely pool & garden.Breakfasts were superb as was the evening meal which you must book beforehand. No tv or internet here.Good base from which to spend a day driving the Swartberg Pass.
We only stayed one night in the Portwine Guesthouse, but we loved it for its location, tranquil and green environment, great pool which was very refreshing after a hot day in the region, and great dinner served on the terrace in the evening (beware of mosquitos though!).
Room was fine, though without airco (fan was present though), but fresh enough...

It was 40 C in the shade when we arrived but in this beautiful Guest House with it's high ceilings and thatched roof it was pleasantly cool. There's a good sized pool to cool off in too. Faultless attention to detail but still comfortable and relaxed, this is how a guest house should be. We visited Calitzdorp to see the...

The place was gorgeous, but the owner was very unfriendly, not a host at all. We didn't feel any hospitality. Also I made a reservation for dinner (by e-mail), while he told me twice that he never received it. Today we arrived home and checked my e-mails: I had made the dinner reservation about 6 weeks before we arrived and...

Calitzdorp is the sort of place where you only have a stopover. It is in the middle of nowhere and on the road to other places. We booked for 3 nights not knowing what to expect and where very pleasantly surprised to find a lovelingly renovate Victorian (?) farmhouse. We loved the decor: beautiful wooden floors, comfy seats, stylish room...

After 4 years we returned to the Port Wine Guesthouse whilst touring the Garden Route and were very pleasantly surprised to see how much it has changed and been improved by the present owners. All the public rooms have been stylishly furnished and all furnishings and decor now include the port wine colour which we found to be very attractive....

Calitzdorp is a good stop on the road from the winelands, heading east to the Cango Caves and/or down to the coast. PortLodge is a decent (if somewaht eccentric) place to break the journey, good dinner and breakfast and a very pleasnt garden and pool area. The owner Pierre whilst very helpful, came across as a control freak who is...

This is a delightful place to stay in the Klein Karoo. If we were to come again, we'd stay a couple of nights. The garden is beautifully laid out and full of birds. Pierre, our host, gave us a big, warm welcome. Some might find his communication style a bit blunt (Dutch?) but we had no problem with it. Our...

The Port Wine was a nice place in a pleasant corner of a quaint town, though it is probably best suited to an older couple.
The owners are friendly and helpful and will cook affordable but tasty dinners for you on request.
Our dinner with accompanying wine on the night we stayed was delicious and it certainly gave us an...
