Very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff. Relaxed and exciting living close to nature. Very good food. We saw different types of rainforest, birds (69 species), animals and insects, we also experienced heavy rain in the rainforest. The entire stay at TRC was amazing, it was an experience we will not forget.

Tambopata Research Center is the place to go! We stayed there for the 5D/4N package (actually the first night was at Posadas Amazonas) and it was amazing! Even though it is the furthest lodge upstream, the accommodations and food were great. We still don’t know how they cook such great meals in such an isolated area. All of the people... More

My wife and I did a 5D/4N trip to the Tambopata Research Centre with Rainforest Expeditions. It was amazing ! We were met at Peurto Maldonado airport by our guide Eder, and bused off to RE headquarters (5 minutes away) where we were given a cold drink and a chance to repack and leave unwanted baggage before we headed upstream.... LOVED IT!!! After about a 2+hour boat ride from Refugio we arrived at TRC. Whilst on the river we saw lots of wildlife and many beautiful birds. The guides were always doing their best to spot wildlife along the way. Once we arrived at TRC the boat/porters took our luggage to our rooms. It's about a 10+ minute walk to... More

Our trip to the Tambopata Research Center (TRC) was unforgettable. We traveled to Peru for our honeymoon and this was our first adventure. Some of our highlights were the claylick, palm swamp, canopy lookout tower and the boat ride to the lodge. We had an amazing guide and we were able to identify over 100 animals including 77 varieties of... More

We booked our 6 day, 5 night jungle trip through Tambopata Travel, which included 1 night at the Refugio Amazonas and 4 nights at the Tambopata Research Center. Our travel agent, Mike, was super helpful in setting up a flawless trip for us, answering dozens of questions in a timely manner, and giving us very useful advice re: what to... More

I spent 4 days / 3 nights with Rainforest Expeditions and I thought it was one of the best experiences in my life. Some of the highlights were: - Accommodations: The lodges (Refugios Amazonas and TRC) were absolutely charming. The rooms are well proportioned and comfortable and the restrooms are spacious and clean. Couple of things to know: there are... More

The Jungle was the first leg of my trip to Peru and what a start. After a long flight from the UK and a brief overnight at Lima I was on my to Puerto Maldonado and the start of an incredible 5 days. The heat and humidity are instant, and that is the way it stays! Your guide claims you... More

The trip started with a 5 hour boat trip to Refugio lodge. We were fed a wonderful packed lunch of special rice wrapped in a big jungle leaf! And the wildlife spotting started immediately with monkeys, macaws, alligators, capybaras, amongst others seen on that trip. Overnight at Refugio was nice, with an early hike and canoe trip on an oxbow... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Tambopata Research Center (TRC) is a spartan yet comfortable 18 bedroom lodge. Because of its remote location in uninhabited wilderness, housing stable populations of endangered wildlife, the small scale of its infrastructure and operations and the presence of researchers and naturalist guides, Tambopata Research Center is an excellent headquarters for in depth explorations of Amazonian nature and wildlife. It is located in a half hectare clearing in the middle of the uninhabited portion of the Tambopata National Reserve, less than a kilometer from the world's largest and most diverse macaw claylick. ... more   less
