Oh, heaven! We hated to leave after only two days, and we will definitely make it a point to return. This place is just enchanting. Quiet - no TV or phones, charming and comfortable. Service is attentive but not intrusive. Meals in the dining room were superb, both breakfast and dinner. There, the service was just a tad slow, but... More

During our visit about 2 years ago, the inn exhibited significant neglect. A previous owner has come back to bring the inn back to its previous glory. Although still a work in progress for some of the rooms, most of the inn has been restored. One can now enjoy a restful get away and go back to the simple life... More

We just came home from four wonderful restful days at the Balsam Mountain Inn. It is very quaint and quite. This will take you back in time when you didn't have TV. It was so peaceful and comfortable. The rooms were very clean and in our room there was a diary of people who stayed there before us and I... More

When did you last stay in a place where strangers share a glass of wine and stories on a covered porch, play checkers or do a jigsaw puzzle together, or lower their voices after 10 PM to keep from disturbing their neighbors? If the answer is never then you owe it to yourself to visit the historic Balsam Inn. This... More

Historical, railroad stop inn, in beautiful North Carolina. Recommend for couples, or families with avid reading kids. No TV, radio, but there is WiFi. Room we had was only big enough for the bed, small stand, and a rocking chair. Request a shower in your room, or you may only have a tub. Bathroom faucets are spring loaded to conserve... More

We absolutely loved staying at this Inn. The location was perfect for the Smokies or for relaxation. The staff was friendly and helpful. Everyone was kind, they offered suggestions for the area, and things were clean. The food was exceptional.....such a treat... Can't wait to visit again! The 2nd floor porch is new my favorite hang out.

We thought of the movie Back in time which was the Grand hotel at Macinaw Island. The hotel was built in 1905 by the railroad to bring visitors to the mountains.WE arrived to find it was so remote the gps couldnt find it.It had a partil gravel drive and parking lot.The best thing was the two sitting porches on the front,the... As with all guests, we thank you for your visit! We love our inn, and appreciate those who choose to come visit us here on the mountain. We review all feedback … suggestions, criticism and kudos, and use that information to improve the experience of our guests. Our staff of 20 takes pride in doing so! But we also admit... More

I love the whole idea of this place: beautiful building and grounds, great location, wonderful staff, excellent food. My room was incredibly uncomfortable, though. The bed was extremely hard and something in the room made me sneeze uncontrollably each night. There is no insulation, so I heard someone snoring each night, as well - and there was no one in... A lovely inn with long porches made for lounging, claw foot tubs, mountain mist views, and desserts to satisfy every sweet tooth. It isn't the most luxurious place you will stay in but it is made for making memories. The Inn is Located only a mile or two from a Blue Ridge parkway entrance, 30 minutes to Biltimore Estate, and the... This is a large hotel, not a B & B in the traditional sense. This hotel has 100 rooms and does not feel personal as we have experienced with other B & B's we have stayed at around the Country. The outside is beautiful, with two large pouches and many rocking chairs to enjoy the scenery. This is pretty much... More
