We stayed for a week in August 2008-35th wedding anniversary. The Compass Rose was comfortable, quiet, clean, great location. The owners were accommodating. We loved it. We went whale watching on land and sea,sea kayaking, walking, beachcombing, Farmer's Market, explored the island, walked to the harbor and talked to local people finding out a lot about life life now and then(history)... A comfortable B&B - beds are quite comfortable; lots of extra pillows; view of the harbour from all three rooms. We stayed in the smallest room and the largest room (had to move due to reserving late - but it wasn't a problem). Breakfast is generous and served between 8-9.30am. Nora and Ed are the innkeepers and are very cordial... More

We spent 2 nights at the Compass Rose and it was delightful. We were in the Calico room, overlooking the harbour, large windows to let the night breeze from the ocean enter the room. Excellent service for breakfast. Nora offers different choice to please everyone. We would return anytime. Actual owners, Ed and Nora, are retiring. Hopefully the next owners... More

We stayed in the lovely Calico Room which overlooks the harbour. There was a choice of breakfast items, which we enjoyed. Service was great & our server was very friendly. The only drawback to this B&B is that it's right on the road & can be noisy, especially when the ferry comes in. On the other hand, it's close to... More

We stayed in a spacious room (Wildflower) with an ocean view. Very clean and comfortable. The dining room was delightul, also with a lovely view of the water. All in all one of the nicest B&B's we've ever stayed in.

I'm debating about whether to classify Ed Parker (Compass Rose owner) as witless or clueless. Rather than choose, let me give a concrete example of each so that you can be the judge. Witless: One of the most common reasons to go to Grand Manan is whale-watching. The morning excursion leaves at 8:00 AM. Given the short travel distance, it... More

The Compass Rose is a lovely little place near the wharf in Grand Manan. The inn consists of two houses next to each other. We stayed in the second house. It was very clean, comfortable and nicely decorated with antiques. There was a small deck in back with chairs where you could sit and watch the fishing boats and ferries.... More

We stayed at the Compass Rose for two nights. Grand Manan is a very interesting island - with a population consisting almost entirely of fisherman. You won't find any luxury yachts in any of their harbours. It's a chance to see NB life as it really is - without all the touristy glitz. And the Compass Rose is a wonderful... More

The Compass Rose is a charming B&B within walking distance of the ferry. It has water views of the harbor and Stanley Beach. The rooms are comfortable, nicely decorated, with excellent mattresses (!), and modern bathrooms. Flagg House has a small deck with Adirondack chairs overloking the water. A well prepared breakfast is included. Dinners are excellent, if pricey. The... More
