We had two nights at the Wild Boar recently with some friends who travelled all the way from Norwich. The break was booked through a discount voucher scheme at a very good price so we were not expecting the best rooms. However, the rooms were fine and clean if a little tired. Unexpectantly, the sheets and towels were changed each... More

We had our civil ceremony wedding here on 1st June 2013 and had the most wonderful day. The staff were so helpful and efficient and made us feel special. Suzanne and her team worked tirelessly to ensure that everything went swimmingly and the service was seam-less and spot-on. It was the most relaxed day and everybody commented on how lovely... More

My partner and i stayed at the hotel for 4 nights (£99 deal) in june, the hotel was very clean and the hotel staff especially the reception ladies were very helpful and accomodating. We stayed on the 2nd floor and had a lovely view, the room was well equiped with kettle (tea, coffee, sugar etc), hairdryer, tv (freeview). The shower... More

Stayed in mini suite pleasant views over farmland. Very clean, good breakfast and the staff were very helpful. Recommend a visit to Chester a beautiful place the racecourse is like a park. A terrific display of topiary. park there for £4 a day and walk 5 mins. to the centre

I'm really confused by this hotel. The approach shows a magnificent half-timbered building. This gives a clue to what you find inside. It's over 120 years old so is 'tired'. However the ambience throughout is quite wonderful. The reception staff, the restaurant and bar staff were just great. However it does seem to rely on past glories. The Chateau Margaux... More

The view over the actual hotel with its black & white design complete with gargoyles and tower was breathtaking. Inside, the staff were friendly, attentive, efficient, and helpful but, importantly, they all achieved the art of NOT making the mistake of overstepping the fine line between efficiency and fawning - something that many hotel staff have not mastered. The food... More

Stayed here on bank holiday monday. The hotel was quite empty the evening we stayed which probably meant it was quieter than usual. The hotel itself is stunning to look at but internally it is much more bland. The room we were given was a family room with a double and a single bed. The room itself was of very... More

Seems to be understaffed...long wait at reception./bar .Arrived after busy wedding reception which had taken place the day before and room was not ready in time.Double room was adequate but basic.Housekeeping needs better organisation. On the whole enjoyed the visit.

We stayed at the hotel on the 18th - 20th May as an anniversary treat. On arrival the receptionist Cath was lovely and very helpful, despite us being early to check in our room was available so she checked us in. Our room was allocated on the ground floor and although lovely I was really hoping for a room with... More
