we stayed for our 5th. wedding anniversary, and since we have 2 year old twins and a four year old at home, we were certainly looking forward to a quiet relaxing break for the first time without the kids! We were not disappointed- the welcome was extremely warm (Leonie), and the owners and other staff could not be more helpful-... More

So glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for taking time out to review us. Chef is pleased about your favourable comments on the food. We try to purchase the best lamb we can, and when Welsh Lamb is available that goes on the menu - it's our most poular meat! I have personally inspected the room to track... More

We stayed in the champagne room for a two night break. This room features a two person spa bath in a very well fitted out bathroom. The room itself was spacious and well furnished although the carpet seemed a little tired and had clearly been lifted at some point and not professionally refitted. This was a minor point only but... Thanks for taking the time to review us. Glad to hear you enjoyed the food/new bathroom/service etc. I agree with your comment on the carpet. It was lifted during the process of putting in the new bathroom and has not gone back properly. We're having the carpet fitter out again tomorrow to decide if it can be stretched out or... More

Stayed here for a surprise anniversary. Lovely hotel and a brilliant restaurant. Log fires and cosy corners in which to pass time made it all quite special. The menu for dinner was good and food prepared with pride and love. Breakfast provided the best Eggs Benedict of' 2012

Thanks for taking the time to review us. I like the eggs Benedict too, which is not good for my waistline! Trying to make up for it with walking the Spaniel Miles More

We arrived to stay for one night to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. We arrived at 12.20 having agreed an early book in. Upon our arrival met by lady who seemed stressed and flustered asked if we had stayed before. She thought the room might be ready but it wasn't checked by the manager yet and they were not in... Some good comments- some not so good! Glad you enjoyed the food, the jacuzzi and the location. With regards being charged for wine you didn't have, that is not quite correct. The wine that appeared on your bill was for a mini-bottle of Prossecco (£7.50) which I believe you did have, but which appears under "wine" on the bills and... More

We arrived muddy and dishevelled after a long stint on Offa's Dyke, but this did not phase the receptionist who sorted our clothes and welcomed us warmly. Our room was upgraded as it was quietish ( Sunday night) and the whole experience could not have been much better. Our room ( Rose) was quiet with a lovely view and well... More

Pen y Dyffryn is a small, secluded character hotel. It is a former Victorian rectory which served the tiny hamlet of Rhydycroesau on the welsh border. It's set on a hillside looking across the valley to the little church. Rooms are warm and comfortable, most with lovely views of the surrounding hills. Comfortable lounge with a log fire, well stocked... More

The complimentary tea and scones on arrival, the warm bedrooms and the log fires in the lounge all made us feel welcome after a long drive and snowy conditions. Our coachhouse bedrooms had wonderful views, and lovely natural light in the bathrooms from skylights. Excellent food, friendly and efficient service. We apologised for keeping staff up as we played cards... More

My wife and I stayed for two nights and we were not disappointed. The location in the snow covered valley was almost unreal. The staff were excellent; very friendly and coped very well with a full hotel. Just sit back, relax, enjoy the food and sample a very substantial wine list. The breakfasts certainly enabled a full day to be... More

This is an excellent quiet rural location with comfortable rooms. The dining room feels cramped but the food is generally very good, well presented and beautifully cooked. The only difficulty is the serving staff who were coldly efficient to the point of noisily starting to set the tables for breakfast while we were still half way through our main course.... More

This was our second stay at Pen-y-Dyffryn. Once again, we were bowled over by the food. This hotel award of 2 rosettes is thoroughly justified. We stayed in the Champagne room which was exquisite. Well recommended. The reason that this hotel didn't get 5 stars from me was that it was never really very warm and the front lounge fire... More
