This is basically just a few rooms above a noisy pub. Check-in at the bar and having to fight your way through crowds of drunken men was quite intimidating. Room was okay, but not worth the money we paid. Would not return.

Rooms located over noisy bar area. Sleep impossible before midnight. Tried to complain the following morning and was assured manager would telephone me - they didn't. Breakfast adequate but took 15 mins to even order a cup of coffee.
This hotel is actually a set of rooms above a pub. I say pub, more of a disco. Don't stay here unless you don't want to get to sleep before midnight. Ironically, the "family room" is closest to the noise so you'll be lucky if your children sleep. Manager was absent in the morning and didn't call back to discuss...

I stayed here just for the one night, and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotel. My room was clean and tidy and the bed was comfy. Downstairs is the bar / dining area. The beer is good (as well as reasonably priced) and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff...

We saw A review saying this hotel was terrible, after we had booked! But I think that some people want 5 star hotels for a 2 star price. We found the staff could not do enough for us and were all very friendly. (especialy for our 1 year old). The only thing we could Mark this place down for was...

Stayed here for 1 night recently in a single room. Check in was at the bar as others have said, no problems on this front. There's a free car park behind the hotel, although this doesn't have many spaces and was pretty jammed when we arrived (travelled with a friend).
The room itself was clean enough although the paintwork in...

When I first arrived to the Smithfield Hotel, I just wanted to drive past and keep going! I hadn’t realised that it is basically a pub with rooms upstairs, and some clientele didn’t look like you want to be leaving your car anywhere near them (car park and smoking yard of the pub are in the same place).
However, I’d...

Had some strengths:
reasonably modern adn well decorated - nice bathroom and trendy restaurant and bar downstairs
Friendly staff - though not experienced or informed
Central location
Areas for improvement:
Please sort out the beds - old, lumpy and not great for relaxing sleep
a big poo left in the loo - yuck!
Very little guest info - no info...

We attended a family get together and stopped here for one night.
The hotel was very clean and tidy. Staff were very helpful and nothing seemed to be too much trouble, which was nice as i have stayed at some places that are not helpful at all. The rooms were very nice too.
We had a meal in the evening,...

We stayed for 4 nights at the hotel; the nice thing about it is the modern contemporary hotel complimented by the 16th century inn adjoining it through the link - the sfaff were very pleasant and friendly, the rooms were clean and generally very good, the food was excellent with a good choice on the menu "I can recomend the...
