Stayed here this weekend for 2 nights in the Rectory Retreat. This is our 2nd visit here, and we are pleased to say the excellent hosts are still running a great B&B. Managed to get up cadair iris and then returned to a gin and tonic in the hot tub, absolute bliss!!! Ricky's food was again perfect, both at breakfast... More

Hello Ian and Julie from Tal-y-llyn and many thanks for returning to stay with us. Well done for getting to the summit of Cadair and you certainly deserved that Welsh gin and tonic in the outdoor hot tub afterwards - hope it also managed to soothe some of those aches! I will pass on your kind comments regarding his cooking... More

We stayed two nights with John and Ricky, and experienced a very warm and easy going atmosphere. We had a lovely welcome, and quickly realised the informality that is in place at the Old Rectory. Although only booked in for dinner on the first night, the meal was so delicious, we couldn't resist the second night. You didn't leave feeling... More

We recently stayed here for a romantic weekend after visiting years ago when it first opened and I am pleased to say that the welcome, atmosphere and standards were just as good second time around. If you are in the area this is the place to stay and definitely try to reserve one of the better rooms if you can,... More

We stayed four nights with our dog in the Retreat. Fantastic! We had two evening meals which would have done credit to a top hotel (thanks Ricky). Breakfast was also superb. It is an ideal spot for a base to explore this wonderful part of Wales. The views from our room and the hotel were stunning. You have to visit... More

Stayed: May 30, 2012 Saw this spot on Trip Advisor while seeking a 1 or 2 night stay returning from Ireland. We explored the coast of Wales before arriving in Ireland and we planned to see a corner of Snowdonia on our return. John told us his favorite room was available for just one night so we grabbed it. We have been staying at The Old Rectory on the lake for over six years now but the last three days there were truly memorable! As usual the accommodation and Ricky's food was second to none but I managed to do what I have always wanted to - climb the nearby mountain, Cadair Idris. I have always wanted to go... More

I was so pleased that you managed to conquer Cadair Idris but to be honest as soon as you sat down just after ten minutes from leaving the carpark I had my doubts! Ann, I am so very impressed that you got to the summit which is some seventy feet off three thousand feet above sea level It was a... More

Just returned from a brief but lovely stay at The Old Rectory. Just back from a great weekend at the Old Rectory. The Rectory is stunning! Perfect location, scenery, hosts, room, the list goes on. We stayed in the smaller of the rooms but made no difference. Room was large enough with an ensuite. Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Old Rectory on the lake has been overlooking Tal-y-llyn, in south Snowdonia for over a hundred years. This imposing residence stands on the foothills of Cader Idris and offers five star luxurious bed and breakfast accommodation in a stunning setting. It is the ideal base for the discerning visitor to explore this particularly quiet and unspoilt scenic area of Wales. We are equidistant between the bustling market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau and the delightful coastal village of Aberdyfi. The Old Rectory on the lake has three double letting rooms - all ensuite - and all look out onto the lake. Our bathrooms upstairs were described as being 'outstanding contemporary ensuites' by the Visit Wales inspector when awarding us five stars.Already our culinary reputation is beginning to spread - indeed we have even been mentioned by name in The House of Commons during a debate on Welsh produce. Our chef can cater for any dietary requirement. The Old Rectory on the lake is licensed. We suggest that this is the ultimate place to unwind; the scenery is breath taking and the silence deafening. All our beds have crisp Egyptian cotton sheets and freshly laundered fluffy towels are in every bathroom and also in the sauna and out outdoor hot tub area which - like most of our windows - looks out over the ever changing Talyllyn - enthusiastically penned in our entry in Alistair Sawday's Special Places to Stay book as ' large, lovely and luminous'.We look forward to perhaps welcoming you here very soon. ... more   less
