We were here in 2012 and would love to go back. Clean, spacious accommodation. The service was excellent. We made ourselves a lovely meal using the freshly baked loaf of bread that was waiting for us when we arrived as well as the produce that we picked ourselves. It was very relaxing.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- We suggest that the best way to holiday in Tasmania is to find somewhere really good to stay and to make that a base for day trips. The Derwent Valley is the best part of Tasmania. Other parts are good to visit, but this is the best part to live in.Hamilton is a good place to live and therefore it is a good for visitors to experience. Also it is central, a good place to make base. James Jackson was a prominent businessman in Hamilton in the mid 1800‘s.He built the Emporium on to the side of his house. There is a stone above the front door says James Jackson’s Emporium 1856.Dictionary says that an Emporium is a centre of commerce, this place would have been that in colonial Hamilton. Over the years it has been all sorts of things including for a time a church hall. We think of a modern Emporium as something of a Department store. The first Department of our business has been visitor accommodation. We operate McCauley's Cottage, Arcadia Holiday House and Bonnie Brae Lodge as self contained 'homes away from home'. ... more less
