Beachside Retreat is a waterfront hideaway in north west Tasmania, where four contemporary beach houses, just for couples, nestle on the dunes, overlooking a secluded, private beach. A 3 B/R spa lodge, adjacent to the homestead , is available for 5 adults, or 4 adults and 1 child, in 2 double bedrooms, one with an adjoining single room.
We were pleasantly surprised on arrival to find a split -level good sized small house. The house was stylish with well appointed furniture. Whilst it is beachside, it is a bit of a struggle to access the beach due to local regulations. It is a bit of a walk through the grass to reach the sand. This was explained to us on arrival when we collected our keys. A suggestion would be when the house is vacated and cleaned for the pantry items to be checked and restocked. There was pepper/salt, oil in the pantry. The oil however was almost empty. Also, we didn't realise there was no WiFi available and we had to use our personal hotspots whilst staying. It was only a 5 minute drive in to Stanley which was an easy drive in to the very pretty town.

Amazing location overlooking the beach. Fully appointed cabin with uniquely carved timber furnishings. If you want to get away from it all and relax while enjoying the local surroundings of Stanley, Smithton and the north/west coast, this is the place to be. Friendly welcoming hosts, the most comfortable thoughtfully designed cabins right on the beach, you can't ask for much more than that.

I do not like giving negative feedback and much prefer to remain silent, however, I think it would be remiss of me to give a detailed description of our very brief stay at this retreat. Let me explain: My wife and I booked this retreat a few months ago I for her birthday weekend and according to the ratings and photos looked to be an excellent venue to spend a couple of nights. Upon arrival you pass the animal petting area, very cute. But as you travel further up the driveway early warning signs become apparent. We noticed that the main house looked a little unkept. A key with a note was left for us at reception with directions to our cabin named Sea Eagle. Each of the cabins are named after indigenous birds. As we approached our cabin, it was apparent that the area around the cabin was not maintained and the cabin itself showed signs of wear and tear and not the fresh cabin that the photos portrayed. As we opened the door we entered the cabin which was quite stuffy following a hot day, so we attempted to open some of the windows with a winding mechanism which was broken, so had to stand on a chair and hand wind the mechanisms to get a little fresh air into the cabin. We then opened the side glass doors, which were filthy to a small outdoor eatery equally filthy and spiders scattered in all directions! Not going to eat outside. We then walked along a inlaid stone path to what we presumed was the walkway to the beach, only to be confronted by a tangled mess of weeds across the path and no real way getting to the beach. We had noticed signage showing the way to the beach past the last cabin. Walking along the way following the signage we were once again confronted with overgrown bush and given it is summer was not prepared to press on in case we stepped on biting critters! In summary we paid $250.00 per night for two nights. Our observations were that the retreat needed a serious amount of maintenance and clearing of bush to enable patrons to gain access to the beach. Also the photos are not current so you are left with quite a difference from actual. We decided to leave immediately and head for Stanley proper, as we had noticed a couple of vacancies town. My wife spoke to an understanding manager explaining our apprehensions to stay any further and granted the manager did not charge us for the second night (but we of course were still out of pocket one night !) Our suggestion is if you can, look before you book, or if you dont mind not having access to the beach then go for it. But for the amount of money you are charged, it may not be the experience you are after.…

Located at the Tarkine Animal farm, there are lots of cute friendly animals like llama, camel, horses, goats, cows, chickens, peacocks, parrots, etc. There is a beautiful private beach at the property to enjoy long walks. The cabin is clean and spacious well equipped with all the kitchen essentials to cook your meals, a big fridge and dishwasher. There is a washing machine free for your use and a dryer which takes 2 $1 coins. We enjoyed our stay very much. There is free WiFi at the reception area not at the cabin. The host is very nice and helpful. Highly recommended to those staying at Stanley. It is 10 min drive to the Stanley hotel with delicious meals and the chocolate gallery. The hike up to the Nut is beautiful with lots of scenic views, wallabies. Check out the little penguins returning in the evening at 930pm at the viewing platform. …

The cabin we stayed in had huge ceiling to floor windows which allowed for the great views of the beach. This cabin had a full kitchen and dining area. The bed was a queen size and it was too hard for us. The ensuite was large but I would have liked to have the toilet in its own area as it is all open space. The beach is right next to the cabin so you can go for walks along it with ease. My only disappointment was that no breakfast provisions were provided and it is advertised as B&B so that was an extra cost to go and buy breakfast.

About 5 minutes out of Stanley and overlooking a picturesque sandy beach and further out across the waters of Bass Strait, this small group of cabins or chalet offers superb accommodation. The chalets are modern and even a bit quirky in design, spacious, very clean and well maintained, very private, well equipped with a full kitchen, nicely furnished, cosy and comfortable and with full length windows to bring the wonderful view inside and a pleasant verandah. Our hostess was very friendly, informative and welcoming, as were the many wallabies quietly hopping around the site.

This chalet is so nice - modern, well designed with lots of glass to take in the views of the beach.Good quality fitting. Lovely bathroom. Very well equipped kitchen with plenty of space. This has got to be one of the best beachside chalets I've stayed in.If you're going to cook, buy your food before you get to Stanley as the only supermarket has limited produce.

Private beach, spectacular view, beautifully designed cabin, fully equipped kitchen, historic Stanley down the road, wallabies, rare birds, good host, what more could you want? Just a bathroom door really. If you don't like wildlife don't stay here. This is a place for nature lovers who also want luxury, and the compromise might be interacting with a couple of interesting insects. Or even snakes. The wildlife is right there with you, good and bad. For many people that is perfect but if you prefer the chemicals, carpet and stale air of a motel, don't stay here.
