We had a reservation for a year in advance for Graduation 2012. The day before our stay they called and left a message that they were moving our reservation to another cheap hotel down the road. They had our $750 for a year for a 2 night stay. They tried to put us in a smoking room at the other... More

We stayed at this hotel for two nights while attending a recent weekend conference on campus. We had two guestrooms and booked two months in advance. Paid about $105 per room per night. The lobby looks pretty nice and elegant given where the hotel was located. The guestrooms were nothing special but they were not totally filthy either. The mattress... More

Thank you for your comments. The Atherton Hotel takes customer security seriously and we do not give out keys to guest rooms without requiring identification. We are happy you liked our downtown location and want you to love the hotel as much as thousands of other fans do! If you feel that your stay was not satisfactory for any reason,... More

We chose this hotel because of its location next to the campus. I had stayed here several times before and was familiar with the hotel, including some of its shortcomings. We enjoyed our stay, and I'd stay here again because of location. Breakfast was very mediocre. Coffee was watered down concentrate. Maple syrup, noted on the menu, did not seem... More

We stayed at the Atherton one night. The mattresses were pretty hard. The linen is outdated. Most hotels are switching to fresh duvets for every guest and the Atherton still uses the old bedspread style. The staff was very friendly, and the hotel was clean. Aside from the beds and linens, it was a nice hotel. We ate at the... More

Furniture from the 70's or earlier, popcorn ceiling, old thin mattress' & comforters-like the Holiday Inn. Mildewy, moth-ball basement smell. Filthy carpet and hallways. Arm chair in room, I swear we could see the dirt out-line of the bodies that sat there through the years! The worst ever.... I would have rather stayed in a crack house. So overpiriced for... More

We wondered if you got us confused with another hotel because our most recent renovation was in 2007. We do love cats, but unfortunately pets are not permitted. More

I only stayed at this hotel one night. Location was the main reason. You can walk to lots of places to eat and shop. Parking is under the hotel and they charge you $5.50 a night. Room was nice, clean, (little outdated) with refrigerator, sofa, large TV, desk, you go through double doors to the king bed. Bathroom had a... More

I stayed at the Atherton Hotel for a college visit and got the executive room with a king and a fold out couch. The room was very spacious and it was nice to have the extra room to move around in. The bathroom comes with 2 sinks and a tub/shower combo supplied with plenty of towels. The carpet was a... More

We are so glad to know you enjoyed the downtown location of The Atherton. Being located in the heart of State College's vibrant downtown offers many options to visitors. We are one block from Penn State University campus and guests are able to walk to a variety of charming shops and restaurants as well. More

Long wait for shuttle from airport, even tho only a handful of flights arrive each day. Place has a certain faded elegance, but the fade outweighs the elegance pretty quickly. Room was dark, dingy, and tho clean on the surface, dirty in a ground-in way. WiFi all but useless in my room, and one of the elevators would not open... More

We had a great stay at the Atherton. It was a nice, average hotel that was great for a weekend family visit. It's a college town folks! What are you expecting? We didn't get bug bites as mentioned in one post and we didn't eat at the restaurant but overall the staff was great for the price and the rooms... More

I have been visiting State College since 2003, when my daughter first enrolled. Over that time we have visited once or twice a year and stayed at several of State College's hotel offerings. If you want to be within walking distance of both the campus and downtown areas, Atherton Hotel is the place to be. Located near the bars and... More
