We really enjoyed our stay at Rice Hope. Lou, the inn keeper, is a fantastic host and interesting lady. She took the time to show us around the house, tell us the history of the objects and crack a few jokes that we appreciated. The house is like a museum with a lot to look at. Once you step inside... If you are looking for a taste of the Old South, look no longer. The inn keeper Lou has all the charm of a Southern Belle and was always friendly and helpful. Rice Hope is very private and full of interesting history. We truly enjoyed exploring the house and beautiful grounds. The rooms are decorated in a shabby chic mixed... More

The house and grounds are beautiful. Lou is a wonderful host. Beds were comfortable, it was quiet, and breakfast was huge. Will come back.

Lou, you've outdone yourself again! What a wonderful time Brian and I had this last weekend. Wonderful accommodations, incredibly GREAT food (loved the shrimp and grits), and your southern hospitality will never be forgotten. We WILL be back. To those reading: do NOT miss an opportunity to spend time at Rice Hope. If you're looking for the standard Hilton or... More

Spending my best friend's 30th birthday at Rice Hope was as pleasureable as anywhere. Nestled on the Cooper River is a charming, inviting, welcoming, old plantation that allows you to literally breath. It was extremely relaxing, a beautiful old place, and the gardens were incredible. The hammock was worth a swing, the camilia's were in full bloom, and the picture... More

We were greeted by Robin who I might add is a very gracious host. My husband and I went for our 5th anniversary and we absolutly love Charleston. Unfortunately we could not afford downtown Charleston. This was so great we did not even go in to downtown. The only drawback for us was there is not a lot to choose... More

We loved our stay at the Rice Hope Plantation. We were the only guests that night in the big old mansion and it was dark, quiet, and a bit spooky. In the morning we had a delicious breakfast cooked by Jamie, the owner and he was very informative about the history of the home. We loved the gardens, too. The... More

My wife and I spent two nights in this beautiful location. I read the review from May 2007 and found it to be way off the mark with little or no knowledge of the surrounding area. There are no nuclear power plants in that part of the state. I think the closest spot for nuclear power is Savannah, GA. (100... More

This was a beautiful and quiet plantation in a remote area 40 minutes from Charleston. The garden was gorgeous and the rooms were charming. I would characterize it as shabby/chic. The hostess was extremely gracious and was also quite knowledgable about the history of the plantation and surrounding areas. My husband is an architect and we are both history buffs,... More

Rice Hope Plantation is advertised as a plantation on many, many acres with extensive grounds. In reality, the acreage is underwater- the former rice fields in the river are what the owners say is the plantation's considerable acreage. The dilapidated old house is really set on approximately three to five acres of dry land in the middle of a run-down... More
