We stayed at the B&B while in town for a show at Township Auditorium. The Auditorium is a 5 minute walk from the inn. Gale and Sherwood Garrett, the owners and innkeepers, made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived until our post-breakfast departure. They went above and beyond the call of duty during our 1 night stay in... More

I want to send a personal thank you to the owners of this wonderful establishment. I was treated with the luxury of a whirlpool bath, large historic room, hearty breakfast, and great conversation. Though my stay only lasted one night, I will return to explore the surrounding area! It felt like I was at home.

What a fabulous B&B!!! We spent two nights here a couple of weeks ago and had such a wonderful time. The suite was tastefully decorated and VERY comfortable. Upon arrival, we were greeted with beverages, chocolate, granola bars and a 1800's newspaper! The room was very spacious and was equipped with everything we needed, lots of cozy blankets, various bathroom... More

I stayed here for a weekend to attend a college football game. The house is beautiful! My room was enormous with a jetted tub and comfortable bed. So much fun history to explore here, too. The daily breakfast was incredible and unlike many B&Bs, there was no formality in that you could have breakfast whenever you wanted. The owners are... More

This 1820's cottage, the home of General and Mary Chestnut during the Civil War, is charming. The five bedrooms are themed and tastefully decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom appeared to have had some updating but was really in need of more renovation. There is a pleasant garden at the back of the cottage with garden furniture and... More

This is an excellent B&B in a well restored historical cottage. Gale and Sherwood went out of their way to make us feel welcome and her breakfast is worthy of any 5 star restaurent. (too bad they do not do dinner). The room was very well appointed and comfortable. Only complaint is the the ghost of Mary Chestnut did not... More

The innkeepers greeted us upon arrival at 9pm and served us a wonderful breakfast the next morning (strawberries and cream, eggs, sausage, tomatoes, cereal, milk, juice). We enjoyed touring the historic property after breakfast and learning about Mary Chestnut. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Boykin_Chesnut for a preview.

I personally love the history behind the Chesnut Cottage, and likewise me and my wife adore the hospitality of Gale and Sherwood. The rooms are quite nice, and breakfast is really, really good. We have taken at least two anniversary trips while staying at the Chesnut Cottage, and have stayed there on several other occasions. It is genuinely our home... More

I thoroughly enjoyed my short stay at Chestnut House. I never want to leave Columbia when I visit my son attending USC. Gail(sp?) and Sherman are intuitively attentive, allow privacy, and lived up to everything promised. They have an ability to feel your needs whether its alot of attention, need for conversation, or to be left alone---they can help conversation... More
