We have some wonderful experiences since 2005. The staff has always been very freindly and fantastic serviceminded. They have always done their best to make our stay smooth and comfortable. We will definetly recommand anyone to go there, it's a fantastic place. And the surroundings are remarkable beautyful. You can go mountainbiking in Dartmoor, which is a rough, very special... More

We rented the entire Youth Hostel for the last weekend in April. We were 31 in total, but the hostel can accommodate a lot more than that. All couples had their own room and the children were in rooms together. Showers were very good and rooms were clean. The hostel is in an excellent location and its very easy to... More

Thank you for the review posted on YHA Okehampton. We do think the hostel is great for groups, both large and small, and there is access direct to the moors from both sites. This booking was for sole use of the hostel premises for two nights at the weekend. During the season we do have live-in staff who have their... More

I am now a rather seasoned youth hosteller having stayed in hostels all over the country. I was however taken aback by the modern and functional decor and layout at Okehampton. The hostel itself is a converted railway shed, they have tried to retain as many original features as possible. This means there is an airy lounge on the first... More

An excellent youth hostel. I shared a comfortable 2 man room with a friend, so didn't need to worry about people we didn't know. The self catered kitchen got a little hot, but after the day spent in the rain, that was welcome! Excellent drying room that got our clothes dry and toasty by the morning.

Thank you for your comments. We are happy you enjoyed your stay at YHA Okehampton, and that our drying rooms got you ready for another day. The self-catering kitchen can get hot when all the gas stoves are in use, and we will add this to the list of items to review for works over the winter period, although you... More

we were a group of 16 who used Okehampton as a base for cycling. It was an excellent choice. First it was cheap; £19 pppn. Second there was somewhere secure to keep your bike. Third the food was good ad plenty of it. Fourth there was always enough hot water. The critisism elsewhere on TA is accurate but the clue... More

Thank you for your comments about your stay at YHA Okehampton. We glad you enjoyed your stay and will pass your comments to the catering team. We welcome all cyclists, whether doing LEJOG, JOGLE and coast 2 coast, or just using the great cycle routes around Devon. We are looking to improve some facilities for cyclists next year, and possibly... More

I stayed in the filter house with my 11 year old nephew, for a 3 night stay. He enjoyed it no end, as there were lots of other kids to play with. He also enjoyed the activites, as which I did although I'm not the most fit person in the world! The accomodation was nice and clean, and comfortable. The... More

Thank you for the great review. The Filter House is well suited to Families as there's plenty of space for them to run around and play. We're happy that you enjoyed your stay and we'll pass your thanks onto the catering, activities and the grounds staff, as they all contributed to making your stay a good one. More

I stayed here with my 2 daughters on an all inclusive package including 3 meals a day, unlimited drinks and activities. We took the camping option and after checking other activity holidays would say this was at least half the price. The staff were friendly, food was excellent and a superb location, so much to do, am planning on going... More

This review concerns the Bracken Tor annex of the hostel. We stayed there for 4 nights during the Jubilee weekend (June 2012) and were surprised to find that this annex was almost empty: only a few couples or families. The place was very quiet, which is nice if you want to relax. The downside is that, being the annex, there... More

Thank you for your feedback on YHA Bracken Tor. This site is ideal for people looking for a quiet weekend with private gardens and picnic areas for each building. There are two buildings with self-catering facilities, and the main kitchen at Bracken Tor is usually used for professional catering for larger groups. We try to ensure that suitable facilities (pots... More

I am comparing this with the Land's End hostel poss little unfair as it did seem that the clientele at the Okehampton yha were probably the main issue. Noisy children, smelly toilets that were overpowering up and down the corridors. Nice staff if a little inattentive and the rooms were pretty cramped.

My apologies for the delay in responding to your review. We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay. Land End YHA is a smaller hostel, and hence at busy times, YHA Okehampton will seem much noisier, and our rooms are probably smaller. Although we clean the hostel, including all the bathrooms throughout the day, as it is open all... More

Stayed here for 3 nights with my 2 girls on a package that also included breakfast and some outdoor activities. This was my first youth hostel experience in 25 years and we had a lot of fun.
