Wonderful setting - peaceful quiet valley, next to the river. We saw deer and a dipper from the bedroom window. Rooms full of character and an extremely comfortable bed. Friendly and helpful owners and staff, we were made to feel very welcome. Lovely breakfasts and tasty evening meals. Added bonus of live folk music one evening.

Had a wonderful break away from city life. Its such a lovely place and the staff can't do enough for you. So laid back and easy going. The food is wonderful and you get so much. I'm a vegetarian and there is plenty of delicious food to choose from. Like the fact you can take your dogs with you and... More

I was visiting some friends who were camping in Exmoor and had car trouble. Had to find somewhere last minute to stay. Luckily someone at the campsite knew the Stag Hunters Hotel. They were busy renovating the hotel when I arrived but gave me a very warm welcome. Even managed to find a new toothbrush and toothpaste for me as... More

Popped in on Sunday evening as I was informed they did off sales and tobacco. I waited a good 5 mins to be acknowledged (being a former publican found this felt lime an age) When I was served, I asked politely if what tobacco they had for sale having seen a pouch or two behind the bar.. I was abruptly... More

I am sorry you felt you waited 5 minutes, I was changing a barrel, as a former publican you should know this is a two minute job. When I approached you you looked impatient and ill tempered. However I was as polite as you were curt, we do generally only sell one brand of cigarettes which appeared to make you... More

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the Staghunters in Brendon. Upon arrival, we immediately felt very welcome. The owners and staff were lovely, chatting away to us like we were regulars, not first time visitors. We had a dog with us who received lots of attention including dog biscuits on arrival. Other guests were friendly, and many were... More

Been meaning to write this review for some time now. We visit the Staghunters more or less annually and have been doing so for nearly ten years. For any body wanting to get away from it all, relax and recharge the batteries, this is the place! Set in one of the most picturesque hamlets you could imagine at the bottom... More

We stopped in here for lunch, having walked up the very pretty East Lyn River from Lynmouth. It's a grand walk (even in the rain) and lunch at the Staghunters was the icing on the cake. The barman was very friendly and welcoming (despite the fact we were all fairly damp) and the food was enjoyable. The soup was reportedly... More

This is a wonderful place hidden in a valley below the main road with a stream flowing out to sea at Lynmouth and a wooded steep sided valley protecting you from the winds of the high moor. Choose a room with a balcony and you are awakened in Spring by the sounds of lambs and a strengthening morning chorus. This... More

I have just returned from a short break with my family as it was my 50th birthday celebration and I would just like to say what a fantastic place it was. Richard, family and staff were so welcoming and did their best to ensure that we had everything we needed and we felt very much at home. The rooms and... More
