This is a unique hotel in a superlative setting, which is perfectly complemented by the friendly welcome from Huw and Sam, and their local knowledge, helping us to have a splendid walk, annotated map provided! The food is just right, delicious and imaginative. If you come when lemon cake is on for tea, you'll probably never want to leave. Excellent... More

We have just enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Old Rectory. Our room was extremely comfortable and the food was delicous - I even could not resist the beautifully cooked Exmoor breakfast and normally breakfast does not interest me. Lovely linen tablecloths, napkins and a well laid table and unobtrusive music in the background during yummy breakfasts and dinner. We... More

Stayed for one night, very lovely location, was a bit disappointed in the dinner, the soup was divine , but the main course was not great. The biggest issue for us was that you couldn't choose when you ate, it was set too early for us, and that can be stressful if you want to amble down to dinner when... More

We were surprised to read this review and sorry to learn that this guest was disappointed with her main course, as feedback on our food is always excellent. In fact the review immediately preceding this (“Professional yet manages to be friendly and informal” by Jennynew, who was sat at the next table on the same night) totally contradicts SRA F,... More

The old rectory is a really outstanding place to stay. Huw and Sam made us feel very welcome and clearly wanted us to enjoy everything about our two night stay. We just wished we could have doubled its length. All the details are right – contemporary crisp décor but with some lovely antique furnishings and splashes of colour (bold patterned... More

If you want the ambience of a house party rather than the cool detachment of a hotel, then the Old Rectory is for you. Huw and Sam do not create an atmosphere in which it is possible to make friends. They make it impossible not to make friends. And if the conversation ever flags, they are there to help it... More

The owners, Sam & Huw are absolute Diamonds and their staff are friendly & professional. the room we stayed in was clean, comfortable & stylishly furnished. The food is locally sourced & deliciously prepared - supper is a culinary delight (thank you Huw)... More
