We have eaten here on a number of occasions but have never stayed before. The food is fantastic. Very reasonably priced for what you get. Delicious starters, and very tasty mains. The desserts are great. The wine list is well stocked and again very reasonably priced. Staff are attentive, a little quirky (Brendan), and offer a professional service. They are... More

The Castleman restaurant with rooms maintains an approach which I last recall from the 1950s - and good for it, because this is its charm and what will draw me back. On entering Chettle village there is little evidence of the 21st century as ducks paddle excitedly around the overgrown pond. The thatched cottages are remarkably ramshackle. The manor house... More

The danger of writing a review of this place is that more people may go there - it is, understandably, difficult enough to get a table even now. You can keep the expensive and pretentious London etc restaurants; this is far, far better. Wonderful setting, great, great food, delightful and friendly service; what's not to like? The old inn is... More

A bit of a quirky one off place. The food is good although if you were fussy you could say they way it is seved could be improved, taste could not though and the desserts are a dream. I loved the lounges with the open fires and slightly old fashioned dinng room. The quality of the rooms could be drastically... More

Cosy, welcoming with scrumptious food and an unstuffy atmosphere; these elements have remained constant for the 13 years we have known the Castleman and it was a delight to sample them once again yesterday evening. The combination of Brendan and his attentive staff, gorgeous surroundings and scrumptious food make the 2 hour round trip well worth it.

We came here for a Christmas do, however even a week before Christmas there was not even a single decoration up, now I'm known as ba humbug, but even I put up some xmas dec's. The food was very tasty but not very hot, service was good, but the room lacked any atmosphere. We retired to the lounge where tea... More

The food at The Castleman is absolutely delicious. There is variety on the menu yet everything is as good as the other. We visited on a Saturday evening and the place was fairly full, creating a friendly atmosphere despite being in a quaint, quiet village in Dorset. This is the place to go for a really special evening.

I recently attended a birthday celebration here for about 24 people. There was a warm welcome from the staff and the dining room looked amazing. The food was exemplary and the sevice could not be faulted, nothing was too much trouble and if anything on the menu needed to be changed slightly due to personal prefference it was not a... More

I booked the Castleman as a base for getting to Salisbury, Blandford Forum and Wimborne for a couple of days. The description on the Castleman website is exactly as it is. Do not expect bland, every one the same chain hotel or expensive, modern furniture in the rooms. Our room was large, overlooking the garden and fields towards Chettle church.... More

Such a warm welcome was given on our arrival and this continued through our stay. Our room though not huge, was large enough and the bathroom had fantastic views over the back garden. Comfortable bed and perfectly cooked breakfast, included home made bread for the toast. We ate far to much! Our only small grumble was the door banging outside... More
