Our double room was only large enough to be a single. The food and presentation were both poor by any standard and well below what we had been led to expect. Perhaps we were unlucky but an experience not to be repeated in the short term. More

Stayed here for three nights although we'd only intended to stay for two. The staff really put themselves out to accommodate our needs, even finding us a taxi on a Sunday evening. The bedroom was spacious and very comfortable with a large bathroom; just what we needed after long walks along the coast. The restaurant was excellent with a very... More

i loved our time in this place. We had a great evening in front of the fireplace with our cheeseplate und port :-) the staff is very friendly and the place is spotless. But the most i was surprised about was to find such exquisite food in such a rural place then durness. Everyone who wants to spend some nice... More

The prices are a bit higher than others on the north west coast but it is worth it. The staff and owners were very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The rooms were beautiful, large and spotless. But the highlight for me was the food. Very tasty and using local products, it was great quality and beautifully presented. Breakfast... More

Perched on the north west corner of the country is a real treat, our home from home which we used as a base from which to explore amazing beaches, nearby lochs and the imposing mountain landscapes. MacKay’s is not a 'traditional hotel' so if you turn up expecting 24 hour room service, a capacious dining room and an endless culinary... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and had a large airy room located to the rear of the property. We could hear some noises in our room, from the kitchen/preparation area below, but nothing to worry about. No stunning views from our room - we could see the sea, but had to look past the local amenities block to do... More

Very stylish room with beautiful bathroom (with wet room shower). Very comfortable bed. An unexpected bonus was the large flat screen TV with freesat HD. First class food was served in the small but attractive dining room. Great attention to detail throughout - good design is obviously very important to the owners. The staff were efficient and friendly. Highly recommended. More

I was on a dream trip to escape 24/7 self employed pressure. My tent had broken, air bed punctured and a walk on Balnakeil beach had relieved some stress. I needed a room somewhere. Called into reception to enquire if a single room was available (hotel is attatched to a bunkhouse) A very snooty young lady replied to my question... More

Hi - thank you for your review. At macKay's we strive to offer the best possible customer service and take all feedback on board. In this case a prospective customer enquired about the availability of a single room - as we only have twin and double rooms we offered this but the customer was not prepared to accept what we... We stayed 3 nights as part of a 2 week holiday to the NW Scotland. We loved Mackay's rooms. Excellent welcome, wonderful style ( modern scottish we'd call it) superbly comfortable beds with feather toppers and best linen, great bathroom and a very peaceful night. ( Was at first a bit dismayed by position on the road, but don't let... More
