We arrived at the McDonald hotel cold wet and smelly having hiked from Bridge of Orchy. The warm and friendly welcome we received from the owners (Peter and Janncke) was truly heartfelt. Staff didn't seem to want you there, didn't even offer a good morning at breakfast. Room was dated even for the 1990's with the smallest double bed in Scotland along with the smallest portable TV presumably sourced from an antique fair. I can't praise the owners and staff more! We stayed here on night 5 of the West Highland Way. My dog hurt his paw during the prevoius day and my wife went ahead with him to the hotel. What can I say, a lovely hotel with really comfortable rooms. Stayed here after a rather arduous walk from Bridge of Orchy to Kinlochleven. Service was excellent, staff were very friendly. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Arriving in Kinlochleven you have to walk through the town to get there on the West Highland Way but better start in the morning. No manned reception on arrival and staffing did seem very light (had to do a bit of hello-ing to get the one bar man who was working two bars and trying to check folk in too).... More
