From the website we had high hopes for this YHA, great location, lovely building with a turret, on the banks of Loch Lomond. The photos were accurate. I agree wholeheartedly with the previous comments about the welcome - leaves a lot to be desired. The reception area is very small with a big sign saying 'Boots Off'. We arrived at... More

Walked for 14 miles in the pouring rain to be greeted with a lacklustre Aussie declaring "boots off" before even a proper welcome. Took ages to get booked in then chucked a key and told our bags were in the shed outside (which had a wet floor - someones bags would have been wet) . Room was very small and... More

Lovely location, lovely building from the outside, but am afraid our experience was not so lovely. As you enter the reception/boot room you are greeted with a sign in large letter BOOTS OFF! please would not go amiss. Then it was boots on again as we were told that our bags had been delivered and were in the shed outside.... More

Have just returned from a 3 night break with husband and another couple after staying in Lodge 38 on the Rowardennan Hotel estate. Wonderful location overlooking Loch Lomond, and beautifully appointed lodge, very warm and comfortable and well-equipped. We ate in the hotel bar one night (great food, very friendly staff) and self-catered for the other two nights. Thank you... More

Friendly staff and great location. Ideal place to stay if walking the WHW or climbing Ben Lomand. The 4 bed dorm was very small and quite a bit away from the shared shower facilities. The beds are squeaky but the showers were great. They have an excellent drying room. The location is fantastic as you are right on the banks... More

Iconic location right on the 'bonnie banks' of Loch Lomond, Rowardennan Lodge youth hostel is a lovely place to stay. You can book a bed in a dorm, a family room or hire the whole hostel from the SYHA website. We hired the hostel for the weekend through SYHA Renta-Hostel scheme for our wedding and filled the place with our... More

Booked and stayed in a luxury lodge for my 30th birthday weekend with 5 friends. Had an absolutely amazing time!. Can't fault the lodge in anyway, rooms were stunning and great sizes. Bathrooms were gorgoeus and again great size. Power shower in each really topped it off (never wanted to get out)!!! Open plan living room/dining room and kitchen was... More

Nevermind that in Rowardennan (especially when doing the WHW in prime season August), you are rather limited in your options for accommodation. All the same, given what the lodge is -- a hostel -- we had a decent stay there. If staying during any of the peak-season summer months, it's necessary to book ahead as they really do sell out... We stayed here during our West Highland Way walk. We arrived soaked so were pleased to find washers and dryers for guests. The twin room was basic, with bunks, but the shared facilities were near by and acceptable. the evening meal was excellent and breakfast was also good. There was a communal lounge which a group of school kids monopolised... More

A hostel with a stunning view... and that's about it. Me and my friend arrived at around 7pm at the hostel, after a very long drive and walk. When we arrived in the "lobby" we had to wait there FOR FORTY MINUTES, in the room which strongly smelled of feet (since you have to leave your shoes in the entrance).... More
