We have just had an excellent three days at the Wynstay Hotel. For us, this is the best hotel we visit, and we have stayed at many in the past forty years. The accomodation is very good, and the food excellent! We have stayed at this hotel over the last eight years, whenever we go to Machynlleth, which is about... More

Just wanted to say something - I'm local to Mach and last night had a last min meal out with some good friends at the Wynnstay. I had quite possibly, the best meal I have ever had in my life. Having never tried Venison before - but being a complete chocoholic, I had the Venison in red wine and chocolate... More

Stayed here on business again recently - had a good sized room, with the usual amenities. Had dinner early, and my table was reserved and laid out ready and waiting. Food was up to usual standards and didn't disappoint, although my choice of beer didn't quite suit my taste (my fault I should have asked for a sample first). Had... More

Have just returned from our second Christmas Eve/Day stay at this Machynlleth hotel and yet again it did not disappoint. The locally sourced food prepared by charasmatic chef, Gareth, was excellent and was served by very friendly staff under the ever watchful eye of his urbane brother, Paul. Gordon the barman was especially attentive and made sure our wine glasses... More

We came to the Wynnstay for a meeting and had supper afterwards. The food was fantastic- seasonal, incredibly tasty and well presented; of special note was the slow cooked beef with pumpkin gnocchi, the mallard and bacon salad and the treacle cured trout, all served with fresh vegetables and home baked bread. The restaurant is homely and comfortable, our table... More

A reasonable stay at this hotel. Old, creaky floors. Our (small) room was overhead (near) reception and thus a tad noisy. Mattress was terrible but average for the UK. Friendly, helpful staff.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time and trouble to review our hotel, and for the kind comments about our staff. One of the things which makes us a popular destination is the character (and age!)of the building, which does result in variation of room sizes and, of course, creaky old floor boards, trodden before you by the likes... Pleasant traditional-style hotel with plenty of character that seemed to attract locals in the restaurant as well as travelers (a good thing). Staff was friendly, room was comfortable but if you are a light sleeper and your neighbors are noisy, you may hear them. Fortunately for us, our neighbors retired early, so we enjoyed a good night's sleep. Breakfast was... More

The food here is not cheap but is really well done . Scallops as a starter and veggy main course good set of flavours. It is around £5/6 for a starter and main around £10 but the food is good Beer also well kept. Breakfast well cooked and nice breakfast room but missed baked beans ! Downstairs has real charm... More

Having had a great stay earlier the same week (July 2011), the receptionist was really rude at checkout, the exchange went something like this: Me: Can I have a VAT receipt please? Receptionist: Handwritten receipt not good enough for you? Me: My company won't accept it for an expense claim Receptionist: Let's kill some more trees Me: (speechless) Had I... More
