When four of us visited a few weeks ago (on a very busy Sunday for lunch), we were impressed by the food but got the feeling that the service to our table was particularly good only because we were looked after by an older, more experienced person who we knew from another place. Two of us went back at about... More

Having recently read a newspaper article on the revamped Royal Hotel, my wife and I decided to pay a visit for lunch. We were not disappointed. The venue has always been a favourite because of it's location overlooking the bay at Mornington and the recent refurb has only enhanced the ambience of the place. The menu is quite comprehensive and... More

We held a function at The Royal last night and it was FANTASTIC! The upper section of the bar was set aside for us, the staff were extremely accommodating and friendly, the food was fantastic and everyone had an incredible time! Dealing with the staff at The Royal in the lead up to the event was extremely easy, nothing was... More

We took a couple who were visiting from Scotland to the Royal Hotel which has recently been refurbished and under new management. The interior is bright and tastefully redecorated as it used to be dull and dated. The decor is now black and white with white linen tablecloths for the tables and comfortable chairs for the patrons. The service was... More

I used to go to the royal before it changed management and was upgraded and returned recently for lunch. What a metamorphosis ! True to the new owners it's as if a slice of southbank has landed in mornington. It's clean, bright and fresh and of course a great view, the staff were attentive, relaxed and accommodating. You won't get... More

With new owners comes a "new" Royal. The simple, clean facelift to the interior speaks volumes of the potential of this place, but that's where things stop. Seated comfortably, my wife and I ordered mains of Wagyu Burger, Mushroom Pie and a Royal Caesar to share. Short/sweet: the pie had all the flavor you'd want but was swimming in broth/water.... More

After changing hands, the new owners (the proprietors of Walters wine bar) the royal has been given the potential to be an outstanding venue. With such an amazing views and beautiful building to work the aesthetics are there. The food was good but the menu lacked merit with too much rice, two types of arancini and two types of risotto.... The Royal Hotel has recently been taken over by Dane and Philippa Shaw from Walters Wine Bar in Melbourne. The food was fabulous. The old building now has a smile as the renovations have made the old Royal warm and welcoming. The young couple have further plans for the accommodation. We will be definitely going back.

Lunched at this Peninsular icon last Wednesday 26th September 2012, completely refurbished by Walter's Wine Bar (South bank) people who have taken out twenty year lease. A big win for Mornington locals. Try it out, you'll love to sit with view of sea in this heritage building. Look to the future not the past.

I stayed here with my sister for two nights in March. The room we shared was huge but in pretty dismal condition. The view is fantastic and there is a huge balcony outside the room but we were just itching to renovate the place. It reminds me of hotels where I worked when I was a student in the 60s.... More
