Stayed here again with my mom (last stayed in October 2011), as there was another irresistible deal on Travelzoo. We love proximity to Burlington so decided to try it again. We had a room in the main house this time and it was much better. The furnishings were better quality and the roman shades were lovely. Loved the room hues... More

Spent a pleasant four days at the Essex for a girls trip. The room was large but the bathroom was very small with absolutely no counter space. There were a few, small disappointing things about this hotel. First, every morning, the main lobby was vacuumed at 9am. This was when my friends and I met for coffee and every morning... More

Dear Frederico B, It is unfortunate that we were obviously not able to clearly communicate the difference between a credit card “authorization” and an actual “charge” while you were here. Despite the extended conversation we had at the front desk, it is apparent that you have left with the wrong impression as the things were clearly ‘lost in translation’. To... More

My husband and I spent a peaceful romantic weekend at the Essex. The service was impecible. We had the pleasure of joining Chef Ben at the Chef's Table at Amuse for the most incredible meal we have ever eaten. I would highly recommend partaking in the Chef's Table. We enjoyed wandering around the beautifully landscaped grounds and a leisurely rock... More

The Essex is a very nice place for a romantic weekend. I stayed in a spa room with a beautiful jacuzzi tub and gas fireplace. It was perfect for relaxing and enjoying the quiet. The extended stay suites were adorable, with a full kitchen area and living space. The food was all it is talked up to be. As soon... More

Excellent, friendly staff. Great food and service at two fine restaurants. Beautiful setting and grounds. Extremely clean and well kept. A relaxing, country getaway. Highly recommended.

Our family of four recently stayed at the Essex using a Groupon package which included two spa treatments and two nights at the inn. We were very impressed and plan to return this summer. The main floor, restaurants, and lobby were all immaculate. We ate three meals in the Tavern (as we had two children with us) and all of... More

We just returned from a two night stay that we booked from Jetsetter. This is over priced and not worth the trip from New Jersey!!!!!!!!! The restaurant is over priced and has poor service. The cooking class is very expensive. There was a wedding that keep us up!! I really can not recommend.

We had a mixed experience at the Essex. We used a groupon and elected for cooking classes and did Bistro Classics with chefs Nate and Lawrence. This was an amazing experience and the food was a gastronomic experience. We decided as we were staying two nights to also partake of the spa and had 7 treatments between us both. The... More

Dear G G, Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent experience. Exceptional customer service is a core element of what we offer and I am sorry that you had a less than ideal experience with one of our receptionists. We have shared your feedback with him and used this as a training opportunity so that all staff may... More

What sets this resort apart is its culinary classes. Otherwise, any full service spa resort in Vermont would do nicely. The setting is lovely, and appears to be in the middle of nowhere, but there is an actual town with restaurants a few miles away. The front desk seems to push the outlets and restaurants that are just off the... More
