What a neat property this is in lovely Middlebury. We didn't have time to explore the hotel, unfortunately, but we appreciated the history - the place is dripping in it. I will say that although I didn't really mind dragging heavy suitcases up two flights of stairs, I did worry about older folks encountering the issue. The elevator didn't appear... More

Thank you for your helpful comments and I like your comment about our Inn 'dripping in history'. Of course, as you point out, there is more to a hotel stay than a nice old building. It sounds like we dropped the ball in a couple of areas. The elevator is a well functioning 100 year old Otis that requires an... More

My wife and I stayed at the Middlebury Inn partly out of business, partly out of pleasure. As many reviewers have noted, the inn is absolutely beautiful, full of meandering passageways and interesting details around every corner (from the Robert Frost portrait at the check-in desk, to the framed historic photos and portraits lining the halls, to the manual elevator).... Aren't you nice! The Middlebury In has been the great lady on the hill overlooking the town of Middlebury for almost two centuries. You captured the essense of the Inn as well as the Town and I thank you. Geoff Conrad General Manager More

Just checked in and there is more human hair then animal hair in the bed Pet friendly rooms should not be an excuse for a dirty room. Hope the previous guest does not need the socks we found.

Thank you for your feedback. As you can see from our stats, cleanliness has never been an issue at the Middlebury Inn. Innkeepers and any business owner, for that matter, always hope our guests will immediatly alert us to a problem so we may rectify it then and there. You don't mention whether this was the case, but I will... More

This was my second time staying at the Middlebury Inn. I was visiting Middlebury College and the hotel came recommended by a friend. Firstly, this is an old historic hotel with all the quirks of an old hotel. You will either find it charming or bothersome. Every room is different with different sized bathrooms and sleeping areas. We had a... More

Thank you for the very fair and comprehensive review. You hit all of the highlights that we mention when promoting the Inn and yes, there are some unique aspects to a 185 year old building that might require some patience. The speed of our internet should not be one of them however, so I will tackle that issue immediatley. Thanks... More

The Inn itself is beautiful and I am sure the rooms within the main building are worth the $189.00, however if you find that you are booked in the Annex it is not worth that money. The room was dated; it felt like at 1970 Holiday Inn. My ground level window overlooked a discarded TV set and a driveway that... More

Thank you for your critique of your recent stay in Middlebury. Although I won't take issue with the fact that the rooms in our Annex are a somewhat different experience than our Main Inn or our Porter Mansion, I will say that they are far better than a 1970 Holiday Inn room, which is where i started my career. As... More

My son and I arrived at the Inn at 2AM after a challenging drive on icy roads. I was afraid that it would be closed for the night...but the lights were all on...the woman at the desk was friendly, efficient and the staff acted like it was normal to check in at 2AM. We were upgraded to a suite with... More

As a fellow Vermonter says, 'we'll leave the light on for you' - oh wait, that's not us. But I'm happy you felt welcome at our comfortable old Inn. Just so you know, we're going through a top to bottom refeshing of our food and beverage operation. New Chef, menus, decor and we have some great ideas for upgrading the... More

The Inn is a big ole, semi-formal, comfy, place, well suited to people who don’t mind walking upstairs instead of waiting for a staff member to come operate the elevator. The beds are comfortable. The AC is quiet. Everything is spic and span with the patina of age that one gets from well-cared-for furnishings. There is a 10% discount for... More

I stayed over a Fall Sunday evening on business and was pleasantly surprised. Check-in was smooth, I was given a free room upgrade (the Inn was much less than full) in the main building, and my room was delightfully quirky but had all the mod cons. It is a historic building, expect uneven floors and creaks, but that's what I... More

We're taught in Hotel Management 101 to differentiate ourselves from the competition and you just did my job for me. The Middlebury Inn is not a cookie cutter hotel, but a somewhay quirky, but comfortable historic gem located right in the center of Middlebury. I will check out that noisy Air Conditioner, however! Thanks you for the kind words. Geoff... More

I stayed here for a weekend of fall foliage viewing. It was amazingly convenient to everything in town that a tourist would want to be able to walk to.

... And there is every reason for visitors to the Inn to complain about the annex, which was indeed only slightly better than a motel. My room was neat, but there was nothing to show that much thought had been given to customizing each room in the way you see so often at lodgings in Vermont. The bed was just... More

I always appreciate well thought out comments and yours strikes the right balance, in my opinion, although some explanation is in order. As an historic Inn, adding additional rooms or space is never easy and in the 60's, the owners at the time made the correct decision that the town of Middlebury needed additional lodging options and the annex was...
