A very warm welcome, specious rooms and a good value price. Every now and them you stay a place that has a special atmosphere and this is one of those places. Couple that with excellent local knowledge and wealth of great suggestions for your stay - you’ll struggle to do better!

We stayed at hotel Alegre for two nights in August, during a road trip around Portugal, and it was one of the best hotels we stayed at - and certainly the best one for value for money! The manager, a lovely old gentleman, did not speak much English but spoke impeccable French, which I do, and went out of his... More

We just wanted a quiet place to relax after 2 weeks touring through Portugal. One of the best places ... even if rated with 2 stars only, this hotel was a very nice surprise, from friendly and helpful staff (old-fashioned, but still agile hotel owner), to great rooms & breakfast, a wonderful swimming pool, close by the village and the... This is a VERY special hotel. It remains true to it's heritage as a traditional spa hotel. For me it brings home old memories but I'm not old enough to have been there in the 40-50's. Mind you, all this means the infrastructure shows the weight of many years (even some of the patrons...) but the staff make up for... More

The three generations of owners of the Alegre have maintained this hotel in top condition, and have maintained a delightful atmosphere with antique furnishings. Through a short cut beside the hotel it's a ten minute walk to an entrance to Busaco.

I was here with my mother & partner in a triple room and we had a perfect stay. It's in the perfect location, set on the hill above a beautiful small village (Luso), walking distance from the Palace and Forest of Bussaco (absolute must-see attractions) and a short bus or train ride to Coimbra. The hotel has fantastic old-world charm,... More

An old hotel in a good location. The breakfast was good and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Nice staff.

I had a pleasure to spent 5 days in the Alegre Hotel in Luso in autumn 2006. The hotel overlooks the town and the surroundings from a hill which ascends further up to the magnificent Bussaco forest. The building is impressive and well kept, the wooden furniture and decorations adds a special feeling about the rooms. There is a small... More

I had a car and chose this hotel for a quiet location to visit the surroundings like Bussaco, Coimbra, Conimbriga, etc. I was impressed by the charming building, with personality. Although old, room was very clean, large and comfortable, except for the tiny shower box. Breakfast was ok. A couple of small restaurants are close by.

The hotel is very impressive from the beginning: you see a towerning pink mansion on top of a hill as you approach the town centre from the motorway. The owner said that the mansion was 150 years old and it is remarkably well preserved for that age. We were impressed by high ceilings, spacious rooms, polished oak floors, quaint furniture,... More
