Check your credit card for unauthorised charges, we had to chase up a refund of $4.34 for some very expensive water we didn't use and several days later we are still waiting for the refund. We arrived and got told that we had been upgraded as we where on Honeymoon, great we thought until we went to our room. It... More

I stayed at the Hotel Rex last week in an Executive King room. My previous experience with the chain was the White Swan Inn, which was fabulous, so I had high expectations. There was a large convention in town and my choice of lodging was very limited. While the ambiance was very different from the WSI, I appreciated the cleanliness... More

Couldn't get a room at Hotel Del Sol (another joie de vivre location) as this was a busy weekend in San Francisco. Luckily they suggested the Hotel Rex which was actually much closer to my daughter's college dorm. Moved her out of the dorm and stayed at the Rex two nights. We were treated very professionally by a kind and... More

Stayed at the Rex Hotel for 2 days during our California trip, when we arrived I was disappointed to find a small, dismal looking hotel with a front entrance that was decidedly tatty. Our room was extremely small and the air conditioning noisy. Most unimpressive, but quaint and old fashioned in the dining room/bar, a novelty free glass of wine... More

Dropped in off the street, and was offered a choice of rooms, staff were very friendly and happy to help ( and very honest about the need for air con on a warm day, as not all rooms came with it standard). Quirky, cute hotel, nothing too fancy but perfect for a few nights as a tourist. Tiny room, tiny... More

This is a fantastic traditional townhouse hotel - dark wood, paintings, books and and palms - two minutes from Union Square. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There's a lovely library bar downstairs where residents are offered a free glass of wine in the evening, which means people congregate there and there's a really good atmostphere, that you don't... Stayed at Hotel Rex for 5 days and had great time. The hotel is in a great location just off Union Square, close to a Walgreens (24hrs) for those pesky little midnight needs and a Starbucks if one insists on drinking that nasty coffee. The hotel is full of character, with a literature theme. Small reception, small bar/restaurant area serving... More

When in San Francisco, you can stay at any of the large chain hotels - and feel like you're in any city - or stay at the Hotel Rex and feel like you're in San Francisco. I have stayed at the Rex my last two visits, and both were marvelous experiences. This is a lovely intimate hotel with a courteous... More
