The Chancellor is a compact, but conveniently located hotel very close to Union Square. It's actually sited in Powell Street, just up from the tram turntable. As such it's very handily placed for using public transport. Our room was nicely furnished, but was quite small - but this is to be expected in the centre of the city, unless you... More

We stayed here for 3 nights in early May as the 2nd stop on our honeymoon. As the title of this review says, the Chancellor was (all round) the best hotel we stayed at for the duration of our trip. Upon arriving we were told that because we were on our honeymoon, they had very kindly upgraded us to a... More

I was impressed with the quality of this hotel considering the central location next to the big chain hotels. Of course, if you're the luxury resort type this is probably not your place. All we needed was a comfortable place to sleep, really good breakfast, quick drink when needed, an excellent staff to help us in between, and a good... More

We booked 4 nights here after selecting it based on Trip Advisor reviews and comparative cost/location of other hotels. It amused us to discover it was the same hotel our daughter and husband selected the same way 4 years ago! They had nothing but praise for Wes and his staff and confirmed what we had read about the accommodations and... More

For San Fran, rooms tend to be smaller for the price. This hotel however had very outdated bathrooms with toilets looking as if they were from army barracks/guys locker room, was very small, and did not even include a basic coffee-maker. There were limited plugs for charging phones/camera etc and the front desk staff, albiet friendly, were less than knowledgeable... More

I've stayed at the Chancellor Hotel twice while in San Fransisco and would happily stay again. Sure, the rooms are a little small and oldish. But the space is plenty comfortable for one or two people and the design feels very historic rather than tired. Speaking of comfortable, the beds here are fantastic for crashing after a long day walking... More

We were very happy with our stay at Chancellor Hotel. The service was wonderful and the staff were very accommodating and attentive. And you cannot beat the price and location! It’s only a couple of blocks from shopping (H&M, Macy’s, Westfield, Sephora etc) and all the amenities are literally a minute away – Starbucks if you need coffee and Walgreens... More

We spent 2 weeks in California in out “trip of a lifetime” We started off with the first 3 nights, May 5 – 8, in San Francisco at the Chancellor which we booked after much research which included the very Frank and honest comments of the General Manager. We went with very high expectations; afraid they wouldn’t be met and... More

We booked this hotel after reading the recommendation on trip advisor. Great location, just off union square. Very central. Less than 2 mins from Macy's. Friendly check in and very helpful. Room was very small but I get the impression that it's the norm in San francisco for the budget. A tad dated but clean. We enjoyed it. Car parking... More

I always find it amusing when folks from London call our rooms small. It is not really the norm for San Francisco as much as it is the norm for older hotels. You will find small rooms in hotels in any city, anywhere in the world, if the building is close to a100 years old or more. That is how... More

My husband and I stayed here for one night of our honeymoon in Downtown San Francisco and it was a really enjoyable experience. The hotel room was somewhat small, but this made it cozy and romantic. The decor is classic like the historic building itself and though some of the bathroom fixtures were not the newest modern designs, everything was... More
