Lets be honest what are you really expecting for about 50 dollars in heart of a city like San Diego? Other hotels are minimum of $130-180 in the area. This is a hostel NOT a hotel. This is a YMCA, and the hotel/hostel part is not the cleanest. Don't be fooled by the one pretty room picture they posted. They... More

Stayed for six nights while attending a meeting in convention center. Hotel staff was always pleasant and helpful. Room was small but clean. Shared baths were clean but steam up fast so shave first. Hallway carpets are showing age. Bed was very comfortable but room was warm. Slept with window open. Ceiling fan would help. Saw all kinds of people... More

the location of this hostel is great, bus- and trolleystation in front of the hostel. everything is in walking distance, harbour & gaslamp district. Small rooms with TV, free wifi, shared bathroom, breakfast not included. Restaurant closed for dinner, I was missing a place to drink something later and read a book in a lounge area. not easy to get... More

For a hostel, this place is fine, for a hotel, it's not. I'll be blunt, if it wasn't for that fact that I was traveling with a group that was staying here, I would have checked out almost immediately and gone elsewhere. First off, it's an old property, and the soundproofing sucks. I had an exterior room, and even with... More

Stayed here for 6 days for a meeting in San Diego Convention Center. For the first 5 days, I asked the room facing the court. The staff gave Room 503. It is OK at the daytime. But at night, the low frequency noise of some machine (air-condition?) cause some unpleasantness. The sound is not large, but it did exist continuously... More

It was our first time in San Diego which always makes it hard, since you don't know where everything is. The hotel is 20 minutes from the airport, in the heart of San Diego, if you don't have a car, there is a bus station just in the front of the hotel. It is also very safe location, safe to... More

Some disagreement on what this place actually is, so be aware before you go. First up, this is listed as a hotel and a hostel, it is a mix of the both. However, the hotel's own description as "the coolest boutique hotel in San Diego" is wrong. If you go in expecting a hotel, even a motel you will be... More

I booked an event for January last September. Stayed there in October to check out, the valet wrecked my car. They finally agreed to pay the $150 to fix it (yes a mere $150 I was harassed) when I told I would pull the event if they did not take care of their problem. Five days before the event the... More

I don't expect much when i am staying at a hotel for an out of town job (i am in construction) but this place was the worst! The rooms face the street and they have thin windows so there was a lot of street noise. we could hear the street sweeper and the trains. We put our bags in the... More

We stayed one night at 500 West in order to be close to the Amtrak station for our early morning departure. In hindsight we probably wouldn't stay here again, despite the convenient location. This is a quasi-hostel/hotel, with small bunk bed rooms and shared bathrooms. The facility is huge, with several floors and lots of rooms. It has the feel... More
