We had an ok experience here. It was clean and the staff was ok, this is a lodge, not hotel, there is no interaction with the staff, only when you pick up the key and drop it off at the end of your stay. The Room was large with a small table and chairs which was handy. The hot water... More

I just visited 5 national parks" and canyon de chelly,s lodge office upon checkin had poor PR staff, they never smiled, The gift shop and tour office acts like I was doing them a favor by being there to book. No thank you or welcome at all. The reatauarnt,s staff was kind, but food was fair. There are many vacancies... More

The Thunderbird lodge is next to the entrance to Canyon de Chelly. It is quiet, clean and and adobe style building. The rooms are apacious with an older layout. Sink with wide counter in room and toilet and bath adjoining. Two beds per room - a king is more expensive. The towels were thick, and soft. It is off the... More

The overall exterior is old. the real problem is in the DIRTY ROOMS AND CAFITERIA . We stayed there with a group and most agreed we would never return . I watched the housekeeper ( after out check out ) she changed the top sheet only when we left our room . She picked up towels and threw them on... More

We've stayed at the Thunderbird lodge 3 times in the original building with two queen beds. The rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet. The location is away from town and close to the canyon. We enjoyed the cafeteria's local ambiance and service. The food was simple and hearty. Just eat the navajo specials. Breakfast is satisfying before taking off for... More

Stayed two nights in March at Thunderbird. Rooms clean and comfortable. Cafeteria breakfasts made to order and good. Did not eat dinner there but got fair reviews from fellow travelers. Grounds are well kept and pretty. Staff OK but didn't ask much of them. Gift shop is very nice and worth visiting. Certainly convenient to the Canyon, although since we... More

If you stay at the Thunderbird, expect a clean, quiet room and a cafeteria eating experience. We had 2 queen beds. The cafeteria serves, well, cafeteria food. Hot and inexpensive and not your usual assortment of food. Liver and onions, Navajo fry bread, grits, creamed chipped beef on biscuits ( a cardiologist delight!). Service was friendly. Book your Canyon de... More

We chose to stay at Thunderbird Lodge because the canyon tours started in front of the gift shop. This is a quaint, almost rustic histoic lodge (motel style) that is about 2 blocks from the befinning of Canyon De Chilley. The on sight dinning room is a cafeteria style with reasonable prices and similar taste. The room had two queen... More

We enjoyed our stay at the Thunderbird Lodge except for the water pipe noise and the loud heating/air older style system. Nice restaurant & gift shop. The rooms were comfy and very clean. We do like the history of the Lodge and it's convenient location to access the Canyon.

The Thunderbird is a modest, clean, comfortable motel within the park where you know you are in a far corner of Arizona. There is no reason to stay at the chains in Chinle when this nice place is near the rim of the canyon. It is not fancy and the food is simple, but if you want to wake up... More
