New York has so many different types of hotels that I am continually pursuing the holy grail, staying in different neighborhoods in search of the best combination of price, convenience and comfort. I landed a great price for the GEM Hotel - SoHo, but I was most intrigued by its location on East Houston, with just steps to SoHo and... More

This was a wonderful stay for me! Customer service is excellent! Everyone was so pleasant no matter what time of day or night I strolled in I was greeted with a welcome! The room was clean and comfy. Loved my Jacuzzi! No fridge but who cares your in NY everything is open at all times! The F train is one... More

We found Human Feces on the ground behind the toilet and on the granite ledge of the bathtub. The man at the front desk came up to verify and agreed it was in fact feces and he was "terribly sorry, but they don't give refunds". He was very nice about it, but that is his job. The manager, Mr. Aaron... More

My son attends NYU and has an apartment in the East Village so you can't beat the location. The room is small (tres European!), but the bathroom is clean and the beds very comfortable. You can usually get a good deal here (unless it's graduation or another huge city event that draws throngs of folks). Derrick and Anthony, at the... More

I was booked for a 2 night stay for a business trip at the Gem hotel. As with all business stays, this was booked by corporate and as soon as I got my travel information, I diligently researched the property. I had only stayed in NYC once before and don't know the city that well. I arrived at the hotel... More

I loved this place. We had had a terrible experience up the road at Whitehouse Bowery (do not stay there!) and walked up the road to stumble upon GEM Hotel, and the wonderful Anthony in reception. He really went above and beyond our expectations and personally apologised on behalf of NYC about the experience we'd had so far (even though... More

What a great place! Can I start by saying the staff are unbelievable here .... so so nice, they went out of their way for myself and my Husband whenever we needed anything. Whether it was a advice on a great local restaurant or bar etc. Nothing was too hard for them- The guys on the front desk including Jose,... More

Not one bad thing to say about it. The price is right, the hotel staff was super friendly and helpful. Our room was great, nice view of the park and the New Museum of Contemporary art from our window. Very clean, and comfy bed. I would recommend this for anyone to stay.

Stayed here on a business trip. Initially they put me in a room number C 705. Upon getting into the elevator I found out C stood for cellar. Yes, they have basement rooms. Dark and musty. I asked to be moved and they did the next day. Next room was on the 6th floor. Same small room but it smelled... More

This is a great little hotel in a very trendy part of Manhattan. The room was a bit small but that was OK because I was only planning to sleep there. The room and hotel were very clean, modern and well maintained and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The Subway is 1 block away so there are no... More
