One block from the subway; close to coffee shops and restaurants; discount for guests at the excellent Nice Matin restaurant in the building; on a relatively quiet street; great staff, who are to a person friendly and helpful; within easy reach of all Manhattan attractions and business districts

I love this hotel becuase it's like living in the neighborhood. It's a sall boutique hotel nestled among restaurants and markets and just one block from the subway and several blocks to Central Park. The service is optimal, the lobby is beautiful and the hotel is great.

Some reviewers thought this hotel looks tired or needs an upgrade, but that was not my experience. It is an older property in a great location. It is understated but exceptionally clean, and everyone was very nice. It doesn't have the 4-star polish of some hotels: the doorman doesn't bow and scrape, there are no annoying little notes everywhere to make you feel "special," no huge bowl of green apples or free cookies in the lobby, the rooms do not have a trademark "decor." But we liked that! The price for the deluxe king suite compared to other NYC hotels is a deal: a very large sitting room, fridge and coffee station, dimmer switches, bathrobes, plenty of hot water in the shower. The windows open a few inches to let in a little fresh air and NY street noise! There's a Duane Reade across the street, if you have any medical or personal needs, and the restaurant attached, Nice Matin, is charming (we had a late evening cocktail one night and breakfast on our last day, all great). If you arrive expecting a luxury hotel, you'll be disappointed that there is no concierge, the lobby is a bit dark, the elevators don't need a room key or security code, and the cups in the room are plastic, not glass. But overall, you should not worry about booking this place. We were very happy with our choice.

We had stayed at this hotel a few years back and booked it in January to ensure a room. The location is ideal. Close to a subway and tons of restaurants and attractions nearby. The double double room on the ninth floor was small but adequate. The bathroom tiny, but plenty of hot water and strong pressure! The room was immaculately cleaned daily. Some quirks, but not complaints. I had to ask at the front desk for replacement shampoo and soap. Odd. The Keurig worked fine but the only offering was French roast and was way too bitter. The other oddity was that you could not break a big bill at the front desk. Instead they called for the “banker” who was the head bellman! He cheerfully made change for us twice! Hey - it is NYC - you have to have fivers on hand for tips! Loved the bellmen who got us cabs all 5 times needed! Even went to the middle of Amsterdam to hail one twice. You get a coupon for a 15% discount at the attached Nice Matin restaurant for breakfast, but as we had to be somewhere at 8 am could only use it once. Fantastic food! So The Lucerne gets 5 stars from us!

We spent the weekend in NYC and were going to the beacon for a concert on Saturday night. This hotel was close had good reviews and liked the historic natural of the hotel. It was nice and would recommend. It has a French restaurant on site that is good for breakfast or other meals. You are close to restaurants and central park is only 5-6 blocks away. The employees were great from front desk staff, bellman and others. Special shout out to Patrick for going the extra mile to assist us. Bottom line if your in the upper west side for a trip I highly recommend the Licerne.

This hotel has such friendly and accommodating staff! The rooms are well-appointed, the fitness center open whenever needed, and the adjacent Nice Matin restaurant is one of my all-time favorites. Hotel guests get a significant discount for breakfast. This is a wonderful Upper West Side location with easy access to transit, the Museum of Natural History, the Lincoln Center area, and Upper Central Park.

What an unexpected treat. The pictures don't do the hotel justice. First, the entire staff was so friendly and welcoming. We had an upper floor suite that was spacious, very clean and very comfortable. The location is great - a short walk to several subway stations. The food scene of the upper west side is right there - great restaurants, Zabar's, Sarabeth's, Barney Greengrass, etc.

Great location in Upper West Side Manhattan. Upon check-in both George and Debra were eager to please and made the entire process as easy as possible. In a residential area, lovely to walk around! Will not hesitate to come back again and we look forward to that!
