A friend and I (both teachers in our 50's) stayed at the ecolodge in June 2012 for 5 days. Our guides were Xavier and Ewme and both were excellent. This leg of our three week trip was the highlight and that's saying something considering the other two legs were a cruise in the Galapagos and hiking in Machu Picchu. We... More

Ever since I read Joe Kane's book, "Savages," I had wanted to visit the Huaorani. Finding another senior citizen to travel with me, I was set. The trip met all my expectations! I sat beside the pilot in our little five-seater plane taking in the panorama of the jungle unfolding beneath us during our flight from Shell to the narrow... More

We stayed in August and had a great time. Everyone else has summarized the trip but I have a few pointers. Bring a lot of cash for the trip. Each community sells bracelets and necklaces and small denominations might be a good idea if you don't want to buy much. The Huarani guides are amazing. They really share the forest... More

I've just come back from 4 days, which I really enjoyed. The most important things are a) the guides and b) the organisation of the trip. My two guides, Xavier and Ewme, were both excellent - knowledgeable, friendly, reliable. Really first class! The trip was very well organised, from the pick up at the Quito hotel to the drop off... We were the group that almost didn't get there! There had been an unusual amount of rain in the area during our time in Ecuador, and although we got on our little plane and flew right over the landing strip, locally it was too wet there to land. We landed back in Shell and our guide, Santiago, found us a... More

I visited the Huaorani ecolodge in October this year. It is a challenge to get there but absolutely worth your while! A real Amazone experience with the comforts of a very nice accommodation; a nice bed, good food and clean showers. A warm welcome by the staff and the Huaorani communities that support it. I can really recommend it to... More

I spent an amazing week in the Amazon. After a bus, plane, and canoe ride, we finally arrived at the lodge. Moi, the leader of the Huaorani tribe served as our personal tour guide for the week. And what's more amazing was that six months before the trip, I took a Democracy and Democratization class that focused on the Huaorani... More

I recently returned from a 4 day trip to this lodge, and had a wonderful time. There are some things that I wish had gone better, but overall everything was excellent. Previous reviews do a good job of summarizing the experience, so this is an attempt to try to add a few of my own thoughts. If you want a... More

I've done a decent amount of traveling, but I think that the four days I spent at the Huaorani Ecolodge are perhaps the most inspiring travel I've ever done. If you're up for a little bit of adventure - you do have to get on that tiny plane, and once you've reached the ecolodge, you're only reachable by radio signal,... More

My trip to the Huaorani Ecolodge was back in the summer of 2008, and it was the highlight of my time in Ecuador. Prior to our trip, my partner and I arranged everything online. Our pick up from our hotel in Quito was right on time, and we spent the drive getting to know our guide and learning more about... More
