On arrival at the hotel, we were faces with steep stone stairs and had to paddle through two inches of water just to get to the tiny reception area. The staff were kind but almost apologetic - they knew that we were not going to enjoy this terrible excuse for a hotel. The room was pitch black (no glass and... More

Before our trip this was one of the hotels i was lookng forward to most.It sounded quirky and exciting. Well the setting is fantastic ,and very dramatic. This could be a great hotel. Unfortunately it isn't at the present time. We had 2 rooms ,one was an upgrade to their most scenic rooms on the top floor ,with full length windows... More

We went for the day. With the opening up of the Southern expressway, now it is only 2 hours from Colombo. Road from Agalawatta is still the same, but passing through the rain forest was really nice. When you reach your destination you want feel that you have come to a hotel. It is unique. There are no name boards,... More

Location is good as a piece of nature but no attention has been paid for space around buildings congested with boulders for average guests who are not expert rock climbers & gymnasts. Entrance though a stream gives a different feeling but a " not wet" entry way with some stones in the water way also would be good. within the... More

Yes there are lots of steps but how could it be built into the rock side without that. Room was large, comfortable and airy, plenty of good lighting. Ants run round the wash basis but this is a natural setting so expect it. Lovely grounds with lots of animals and birds to spot. Good base for visiting the rainforest. Food... More

It’s a perilous journey almost 5 hours away from Colombo, upon entering you are enthralled by the location and the sheer rapture of the jungle. and then you climb 50 steps up through caves and water ways to be even more mesmerized only to enter the rooms and be terribly disappointed ! It’s all ready dangerous enough climbing up slippery... More

We arrived after a long drive and enjoyed the first impressions, long and steep staircase up to reception, jungle all around us and monkeys playing in the trees above , but , alas once we scaled the long walk up to reception ... no-one was there, so we sat and tried to find the office contact details, eventually a garden... We arrived mid-afternoon, tired from 5 hours of driving and not excited by the last 500 metres of "track" in a jeep to reach the hotel. Then the enchantment started - the dark gray of the boulders, the trickling wet floor to traverse to reach reception, the climbing of large stone steps, unsure but intrigued - the feeling that this... In Sri Lanka they sell a floor tile that is non-slip, but wall tiles are cheaper. Unfortunately in this hotel they have used the cheaper wall tiles on the floor. I was walking from the upper level to the steps down to the shower, slipped, landed sideways on my ribs on the corner of the step, and bounced 180 degrees... More

Boulder Garden, as its name suggests is built into the rocks. There only a small number of rooms and they are all different. We had a suite which was very comfortable but make sure you close the shutters when tou leave the room or you might return to find a monkey or mongoose sitting on the bed. The service was... More
