The room was clean and nicely renovated with daily maid service, coffee and tea making facilities and good efficient air conditioning. The bathroom was a little dated but had a good warm shower and toilet. There was a small pool and a few sun beds but no parasols or protection from the sun. We had breakfast which was very basic. The staff cooked the eggs at 7 o’clock but they were not kept warm. Breakfast choice was limited to toast, cornflakes, fruit, eggs and fried rice every other day. The pool seemed to open late at night because at weekend it looked like some of the staffs teenagers were frolicking in the pool past 10 o’clock so it was quite noisy and hard to sleep. The price was good for this hotel and it was across the road from all the bars and restaurants. The beach would be a 20 minute walk away and there are many hotels nearer to the sea.

Located along the main road, meet our requirements for 3N. Staff is responsive. Can get discount for food and drinks at Tony Lodge, where they have live band singing. Breakfast is ok as we only have it for 1 morning.

We have just moved after been at motive for 1 night the worst night we have ever had at a hotel ever as follows . Last night and this morning - because the walls of this hotel are so thin, my children were subjected to hours of rampant sex cries , moans & skin slapping noises, with the bed banging and squeaking for hours up until 1.30am last night and then again this morning it woke us up at 9am as they were at it again My 9 year old daughter was so uncomfortable with this she was in tears and very confused - the walls are so thin you could hear intimate details , skin slapping and heavy breathing with sex talk , it was embarrassing and scary for both my children we could hear everything through the paper thin walls. It was extremely awkward, very uncomfortable and an unpleasant experience . Just as that stopped last night at 1.30, a noisy family came back to the room on the other side, loud talking, baby crying and they put the TV on at volume- again, because the walls are so thin, there was no escape from it. Finally we managed to fall asleep only to be woken again at 4am by the baby screaming. We tried to talk to 2 different people about it at reception but they just shrugged there’s shoulders didn’t offer to move our room or a refund no help whatsoever . We have tried to raise it with agoda repeatedly but they are not interested and just offered me a £40 credit on our next booking and have still charged us £455 as we left the hotel early and said it’s the hotels policy not there’s even though we paid agoda in full before hand . To top it off the extra bed my son had been given ( which cost £13 a day ) was literally so hard it was like a block of concrete and the blanket had several holes in it. This was a terrible night of sleep as we were trapped in the room between the loud sex and the screaming baby. I understand these things go on in private, but the walls are so thin, you cannot get away from what is going on next door and children (nor adults!) should not have to be subjected to someone else’s intimate sex noises . It meant the holiday had started with a unpleasant experience that made it feel more like torture than a holiday and there is no way I would let my children stay in that environment again ( surely any decent parent would agree with me ? ) . None of us wanted to return to that hotel as things that should be private cannot be private in that hotel because the walls are obviously so thin . On top of this the hotel is in a very poor state and needs to be refurbished throughout . The rooms are dark & dingy and the mattresses are like solid planks . The shower is very poor and makes the whole bathroom wet and the floor like a ice rink . The pool has so much chemicals in it after swimming for half an hour my throat went totally dry and I had trouble swallowing and my sons as well ( we have never had this before at any pool ) - throat was fine as soon as we left the pool . Do not subject yourself to this just book somewhere else.

Spent a month at motive cottage. It's in what was for us a good location as we hired a motorbike And was handy for pretty much everywhere. A bit far from the beach (about 20 mins walk) but it is a short walk to the bars and restaurants. The hotel itself is a bit dated and although cleaners were changing towels etc I don't think much cleaning was done. Breakfast was truly awfully ,was OK for a couple of days then got very repetitive, had done my research beforehand on tp and lots of people saying great food bacon, curry soup ,thai noodles and so on but we saw none of this. If your thinking of staying here please do not waste your money on the breakfast option. Hotel staff were OK but seemed very disinterested, lucky to get a smile. About three weeks in to our holiday we decided we had had enough and booked into another hotel for a few days, was like a breath of fresh air, a holiday on holiday, but the difference in quality was obvious. I feel I may be being a little harsh as I have stayed in much worse hotels around the world but with a little improvement motive could be really very good. Good tip if your hiring a scooter, 5 star bike rental just over the road. Very friendly, good price and good bikes. A very professional outfit. If you,ve never been to khao lak before then your in for a treat, great beaches, great food and great people.

We spent 3 days at this “resort”. We were supposed to stay for 11 days, but were lucky to find something else for the remaining 8 days. The “resort” is located around 6km alway from the beach. Therefor if you’re going on a look a beach-vacation this is not the place for you. Motive is close to the Main Street, so expect a lot traffic noise. Let’s start at the bathroom; - There was no sope to wash your hands with - No towels to dry your hands - only toilet paper - Our hair got greasy and stif whilst in the shower (wonder where that water came from) - No shower curtain so expect water to be everywhere - There was a shower-rug on the floor in the bathroom, and when the staff cleaned the room, they put the same dirty rug on the toilet every day - There was a window from the bathroom to the main room that couldn’t be closed. - The bathroom door was nearly impossible to close and lock. The main room: - The floor was in a bad shape, and made a lot of noise when you walked on it. It was also dirty. - The AC worket slow and was very loud. It was also placed on the side of the bed, so that the air blows right at you when you sleep. - The mattress was very hard, and so was the pillow. - There was no chairs outside that you can sit on, only a dirty sitting group of pillows on the floor inside. The breakfast was really not that good. They served warm milk, ham in som kind of water, curry, a soup and eggs if requested. If you’re lucky you’ll get some fruit. We also experienced the staff yelling at someone for taking a pice of watermelon out of the breakfast area. The only positive thing about this place was that you get two small waterbotles every day (as every other place in Thailand).

Good location and attractive building. The room was spacious and pleasantly furnished, and the bedding and towels were of good quality. The pool area, whilst compact, was ok for chilling. The staff were obliging when approached, but appeared mostly disinterested in guests and their welfare. The male staff in Reception appeared to spend their shift sprawled on the sofa in reception on their smartphones. The main problem with Motive Cottage was that it was all a bit grubby and neglected - not quite "dirty", but not clean enough either. Everywhere was dusty and all the windows were filthy and covered in cobwebs. The mirror in my room had handprints on it when I arrived, that I'm sure are still there 2 weeks after I left. Cleaning staff came to my room every day; they changed the towels, topped up the bottled water and loo roll, and left without doing any cleaning. I didn't see anyone cleaning the pool or sweeping that area during the week of my stay. it could be a lovely place with a good scrub.

I spent 8 nights at Motive ending last week. Great location on the main highway, currency conversion booth next door (98.7% rate from US to THB!), many good restaurants, massage, bars, laundry, pharmacy, 7-11, etc nearby... and very close to the main road that heads to the beach, where most dive shops, souvenir shops, restaurants, bars, and massage are located. A fun place, a far more laid back, quiet and rural feel than Kata or Patong down south. Liked this location much better. Motive: a basic clean & functional bathroom & shower, very comfortable bed & pillows, prompt maid service, more towels available upon request, helpful & friendly front desk, good room safe... but why I gave it a 5 star rating: the breakfast buffet! Each morning a different combo of rice & noodle dishes. Never had the same dish twice. Eggs made to order by the chef, with bacon. Fresh watermelon & pineapple. Great coffee too. Various other meats and a toast machine. Milk & cereal also. I will book again, definitely.

we stayed here recently for 2 weeks we wanted a chill out holiday motive cottage is ideally situated in bang niang and we just had to cross the road and walk down the beach road with all the lovely restaurants shops and bars, travel agents for trips etc and money exchange. The popular market was just up from motive and we spent many a evening walking round and taking in the atmosphere. The rooms ]are clean and housekeeping attended daily, making the bed clean towels replacing water tea coffee etc. we didnt book for breakfast so couldnt comment but from what we saw it looked very good. we rented a motor cycle from the hotel which was very reasonably price and toured the area. we had a fantastic holiday the staff where helpful and always had a smile for us, only one complaint we had to come home.

We decided to stay here over Christmas as we have been backpacking staying in budget accommodation and wanted to stay somewhere a bit nicer. Our room was nice and spacious however we noticed a really bad smell in one corner of the room (we decided not to move rooms as had unpacked everything and the smell wasn't that bad as long as we kept the aircon on). The room was cleaned daily which was nice and we were given free bottled water daily. The beds were also comfy and shower was warm. The location was good. Opposite the main road down to the beach and almost opposite a 7/11. Beach a 10-15 minute walk. The only huge negative we have is the pool. It was disgusting....I don't know how people were swimming in it. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. Quite annoyed at this as the pool was one of the main reasons we booked here however we just decided to spend all our time at the beach instead. A nice base and nice rooms however don't book it because of the pool or you'll be disappointed.

This small budget hotel is conveniently located opposite to Bang Niang Market which offers many eating and drinking options. The beach is also about a 15 minute walk which is not too bad. The room itself was nice and clean with all the amenities you would expect such as cable TV, A/C, fridge, hairdryer, hot water etc. There is also a neat sitting area inside each room where you can use as a working or dining space. The outdoor swimming pool is also a bonus for hot days or cleansing after taking a dip in the ocean. The breakfast is also very nice with garlic bread! (only place I've seen that in Thailand). All in all, this is a good option for lodging in Takua Pa.
